McMenamins, Nanotear, Portland Mercury, and X-Ray Present proudly host Sabertooth 2023, bringing a stoner metal edge to this celebration of the Crystal Ballroom’s psychedelic history. Sabertooth 2023 features Yob, Ludicra, Uada, Ghost Bath, WILL, Year of the Cobra, Rhododendron, Cloak, Hoaxed, & Lividus.

Yob
Epic, crushing, and heavy beyond words, YOB has achieved legendary status due to their unmatched aesthetic and incredible body of work. With riveting compositions of enormous volume and pensive, ethereal beauty, the Oregon three piece bleed out their own organic universe of ultimate doom while shining an infinite light of transcendence.

Ludicra
Ludicra surfaced from the minds of John Cobbett and Aesop Dekker in the fall of 1998. Based in San Francisco, the band was envisioned as raw and primal black metal that could eschew the more theatrical tropes of the genre. Shortly after debuting as a four piece which included guitarist / vocalist Christy Cather, Ludicra expanded its ranks to five with the addition of vocalist Laurie Sue Shanaman and bassist Ross Sewage.

The following decade would see the rise of a singular band, delivering urban pathos to black metal and writing a soundtrack for the desperate lives of the city. Ludicra would go on to release four full length albums and one EP that were met roundly with critical praise. Their live performances were fervent and passionate, etching Ludicra deeply into the psyche of their audiences.

Uada
Since their formation in 2014, Uada’s rise has been meteoric. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, the band quietly released their debut album, Devoid of Light in 2016 through and word of mouth quickly built from there: here was BLACK METAL writ large, classic and uncompromising but brimming with power, soul, and artistry, and all without bluster and bathos. Uada’s debut album surely expanded the lexicon of the melodic black metal idiom, and the underground took notice. Two years later came Cult of a Dying Sun, whereby the band further perfected their craft and compellingly took to the stage, their performances garnering as much acclaim as their recordings. During all this, more than the underground started to take notice; the name Uada was on the tongues offolks usually reticent to black metal. In 2020, almost effortlessly, Uada fully perfect their craft and delivered Djinn. Simply titled but by no means simple in construction nor execution, Djinn builds upon the increasingly ambitious songwriting of its no-less-considerable predecessor, but pushes their dazzling artistry into nearly Technicolor landscapes of the Beyond.

Ghost Bath
Ghost Bath refers to the act of committing suicide by submerging in a body of water. A depressive suicidal black metal act, the band began in 2013 as a one-man project with a Self-Titled EP. Since then, they’ve released four studio albums on Nuclear Blast and have toured around the world.

Will
Forging their own unique and eclectic blend of funeral doom since 2015, Portland Oregon quartet WILL sonically light the candles of a separate reality. Wielding lightning sharp riffs that open the supernatural depths of terror & bliss, they weave crystalline melodies with extreme dirge doom and blistering black metal, telling alchemical tales of dark psychological landscapes.
