“One of our greatest living chroniclers of love and marriage—and its resounding impacts over generations—is back this summer … Expect wonder; Patchett always delivers.” — Elle

About Tom Lake:

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family’s orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Tom Lake is a meditation on youthful love, married love, and the lives parents have led before their children were born. Both hopeful and elegiac, it explores what it means to be happy even when the world is falling apart. As in all of her novels, Ann Patchett combines compelling narrative artistry with piercing insights into family dynamics. The result is a rich and luminous story, told with profound intelligence and emotional subtlety, that demonstrates once again why she is one of the most revered and acclaimed literary talents working today.

    Sounds great!

I find Ann Patchett’s writing very compelling, as it forces one to evaluate aspects of life. Cheryl S. is also one who lives an examined life if her writing is an indication of how her life is lived. It would be great to actually hear from them in person.

Is this a dream?! Cheryl Strayed is my all time favorite author and columnist. After reading Wild, I was inspired to turn my past traumas into something positive just as she did. I have now hiked most of the PCT and frequent the Bridge of the Gods (where she ended her hiking journey). Cheryl has completely given me a new outlook on life. Especially after reading Tiny Beautiful Things. Her wisdom and advice have helped me to transform my life and has helped me to connect with others who may be struggling in any capacity. I would be honored to attend this event as I feel it could really help me to learn, grow, and heal. Thank you so much for the opportunity to receive tickets!!!
