Front of House Associate Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Front of House Associate

Reports to: Executive Director

Terms: TBD – Regional/Seasonal position during months from April 28, 2024 through September 30, 2024.

Location: This job entails traveling for up to 3 week segments, in addition to Portland area meetings for preparatory work

Compensation: Daily rate from $150 to $175 depending on experience plus $65 per diem on full travel days.

Travel/lodging covered.

Inspired by the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Music Project during the Great Depression, IN A LANDSCAPE:

Classical Music in the Wild is a summer concert series that celebrates classical music and the American West in experiences that are accessible to all. In 2024, IN A LANDSCAPE enters its 9th season bringing a 9-foot Steinway to national parks, state parks, private ranches, farms, and resorts across Oregon and the West. The project is gaining national attention and is growing the infrastructure to accommodate new opportunities. IN A LANDSCAPE is a registered Oregon non-profit with 501(c)(3) status.

The Front of House Assistant will be an essential part of a team composed of arts professionals, producing a nationally recognized series of outdoor classical music concerts, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild. The primary areas of responsibility for the Front of House Assistant includes set up and teardown, headphone charging, coordinating with FOH volunteers, merchandising, audience survey, and documentation of procedures.

FRONT OF HOUSE DUTIES:

● Drive IN A LANDSCAPE vehicles to concert sites

● Supervise set up and break down of Front of House for each concert and supervise loading of FOH to designated vehicle

● Supervise post-concert headphone charging and stow procedures with volunteers

● Ensure that all headphones are charged, packed, and ready for each performance as directed by Site Manager

● Coordinate with Volunteers while on site as directed by Site Manager

● Review and update “Front of House Volunteer Procedure Handbook” with Site Manager and update as needed for the 2024 Season

● Manage, monitor, and safeguard merchandise inventory

● Work with E.D. or assignee to finalize merchandise accounting procedures and forms prior to 4/28/24

● Manage Point of Sale activities and verify for accuracy the recording of all merchandise sales after each concert

● Tally cash and credit card sales and donations after each concert

● Deliver cash receipts to the Executive Director when nightly reports are complete and ready for review

● Coordinate survey distribution and collection at each concert. Execute procedures for digitizing results

● Create and document best practices for all areas of responsibility in final draft by end of Concert Season

● Other duties as assigned to create a successful season

● Current Oregon drivers license with clean driving record (to be verified upon offer of job)

● Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and the highest degree of ethics and integrity

● Exceptional written, oral communication, and organizational skills

● Enthusiasm and sense of humor

● Ability to give regular communications in person, writing, by email and by telephone.

● Availability evenings and weekends for events and meetings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to lift, carry, and set up a variety of materials including electronics, programs in boxes, and other materials up to 50 pounds.

● Ability to pack, unpack and put away various materials
