Portland in the News: Lights Out for Birds, PDX Punk Candles, Preventing Food Waste & More | September 24, 2026

A Portland artist has created a line of prayer candles dedicated to Portland punk legends like Toody Cole,  John ‘Elvis’ Schroder and Portlandia’s  Jedediah Aaker.

Millions of birds are currently migrating across the Northwest. Do them a solid by turning off your outdoor lights after 11PM.

And Food Waste Prevention Week begins September 28, asking you to consider composting your vegetables, donating excess food and more to keep food out of landfills.
