We’re a tight knit, mission-based, social services company seeking patient, well spoken and well written, empathetic, objective, and observant individuals to join our growing team in the role of Job Coach.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting hourly wage of $19.00-21.00 per hour. Benefits include a 401(k) with 3% match, top of the line medical insurance, dental insurance, and paid time off (holidays, birthday, PTO). This role provides a nice foundation for upward mobility.
Job Summary
Job Coaches provide direct support for people with disabilities in their workplace to help them be successful at work. The support needs differ depending upon the individual. Job Coaches help to manage a client’s schedule, help them navigate workplace computer systems to access pay stubs or request time off, speak with managers to advocate for accommodations and check in to get feedback on performance, attend orientations, help clients learn their job duties, and work with them on-site to perform the tasks of their job. This position works autonomously and must have a reliable vehicle.
Core Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders
- Present at coaching sites on time and dressed appropriately
- Produces organized and detailed notes for each client at the end of each workday
- Works with Gmail, iPhone (iMessage), and word processing software
- Meets with clients to practice typical and targeted interview questions
- Develops training plans for clients
- Connects with employers to ensure long-term success
- Creates client resumes within acceptable time standards
- Once a client is placed, ensures the employer needs are met by utilizing proper job coaching techniques for job retention
- Completes all mandatory required annual trainings (12+ hours of online coursework)
- Manages a company email account. (Management is defined as the ability to review and respond to all emails in a timely manner. In the event an email exceeds the ability to handle, engage a direct supervisor for assistance.)
- Manages a caseload of clients for face-to-face job coaching. (Management is defined as the ability to engage with the client’s direct supervisor to coordinate shifts.)
- Manages a caseload of job development clients. (Management, at a minimum, is defined as the ability to engage with a client’s direct supervisor to coordinate their shifts and vet all of their time off requests to ensure all job coaching requirements have been met.)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with adults who experience barriers to employment, specifically Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
- Knowledge of Supported Employment Processes and Procedures
- Established work history (2+ years), preferably in retail, food service, or other customer facing positions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- English fluency
- Must pass an ODHS background check (A list of disqualifying conditions can be found at this link: https://www.oregon.gov/dhs/BUSINESSSERVICES/CHC/Documents/HR-PDQ-Convictions-Conditions.pdf.)
- Team driven and able to work well with direction from both our customer’s supervisors and our own management
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the Portland Metro area
- Must be independent, reliable, and capable of managing a schedule with minimal supervision
- Must be patient and understanding to each client’s specific needs/disabilities
- Must interact with and get along with others in the workplace
- This position requires completion of administrative reports as well as maintaining client records. Organizational skills and the ability to maintain records in our online database is a must.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Our goal is to provide each client with a level of service that helps our clients succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
- College coursework with an emphasis on oral and written communication skills
- Verified job placement experience within the last four years
- Experience working with at-risk populations with developmental/intellectual disabilities
- Experience in public relations and/or in technical writing
