Position Overview:

The Staff Accountant will closely collaborate with the Senior Finance Manager and staff to oversee and implement systems ensuring effective financial management and regulatory compliance at local, state, and federal levels. This full-time, non-exempt position is integral to the day-to-day operations of the finance team. Ideal candidates will possess strong nonprofit fund accounting skills, fiscal management abilities, independence in work, effective communication skills with JOIN staff and participants, Executive and Leadership Teams, volunteers, and partners, as well as exceptional customer service skills.

$64,000 – $66,000 DOE

Full-time non-exempt position with option for 100% paid employer paid Health Benefits (medical & dental benefits for employee and all dependents), employer paid Long and Short term disability benefit, employer paid $50,000 life insurance, EAP, Flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care, unmatched 403(b), holiday pay, 160 hours PTO, 10 paid holidays plus paid winter break shutdown, 8 hours/month paid community involvement opportunity, 1 week paid bereavement leave, paid trauma leave, and an 8 week paid sabbatical after 7 years of employment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track grant subrecipient invoices, ensuring timely payment to partners and accurate, timely billings to government grant partners.
  • Process bank deposits and post all incoming cash in the accounting system.
  • Maintain financial records for grant funds, bank accounts, fundraising software, fiscally sponsored agencies, and prepare monthly reconciliations.
  • Utilize QuickBooks to prepare month-end close entries, program invoicing, fixed assets payables, and intercompany entries.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Finance Manager to ensure accuracy of accounting records for month and year-end close.
  • Track expenditures by grant, generate financial reports, and prepare payment requests to grantors.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager in supporting the organization’s annual audit and special audits by government program review.
  • Produce invoicing to support contracts with government agencies.
  • Manage income and expenditure accounts, posting and processing journal entries to ensure all business transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Assist in preparing supporting documents for annual 990, CT-12, and other financial obligations as assigned.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager and Board in developing annual budgets.
  • Provide financial and administrative support for programs, including report preparation, review, and limited training.
  • Maintain internal controls and assist in maintaining databases for customers, donors, volunteers, and partners.
  • Assist in implementing new financial systems and internal control processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a staff accountant or equivalent role multi-government agency funding. Nonprofit with multi-government agency fund accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with grant funding and contract administration helpful
  • Knowledge and proficiency in QuickBooks, preferably QuickBooks Online including Non-Profit Edition.
  • Proven knowledge of standard accounting procedures and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google programs, including MS Word and MS Excel, as well as G-Suite.
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team setting.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communications.
  • Self-directed, organized, detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in accounting duties.
  • Effective time management skills.
