The People and Culture team works together to make Impact NW a great place to work and to ensure our process and policies are inclusive to all and meet the needs of our employees. In partnership with the People and Culture Director, the Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for creating and delivering organizational practices that align with employment laws and are driven by our organizational values. This position provides support to managers and supervisors with employees related issues; collects data to help the department drive change; creates and delivers employment related training for supervisors. Along with understanding and knowledge of employment law, the ideal candidate for this position believes in our mission of preventing homelessness and shares our equity and anti-discrimination values. This is a hybrid position working 2 days in office and 3 days from home.

 

Job Title: Employee Relations Specialist I
Wage: 62,000.00 per year
Classification: HR Generalist I
Position Type: 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week
Location: Various locations in Portland

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Employee Relation:

  • Respond to employees’ employment related complaints.
  • Provide guidance and support to management with employees’ relation topics such as; performance, corrective and improvement processes.
  • Conduct workplace investigations in partnership with the People and Culture Director.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture Director to develop and execute employee engagement initiatives.

Training and Development:

  • Develop and deliver employment relation training for management.
  • Organize and conduct anti-harassment trainings for all staff and management.
  • Organize and coordinate the new supervisor cohort program.

Compliance & Analytics:

  • Monitor and analyze employee complaints, grievances, and other employee relation issues.
  • Collect training feedback from supervisors.
  • Ensure compliance by reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Review and update employee handbook and supervisor manual.
  • Communicate policies updates to staff and management.

Qualifications:

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Experience in Human Resources, specifically in employee relations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal employment rules and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with employees from different cultures,
  • Race, age and abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills.
  • Self-organizing and ability to work in multiple projects at a time.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HRIS systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple various tasks, meticulous attention to details and ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.

Physical Requirements: the person in this role

  • Needs to be able to remain in a stationary position for extended period of time.
  • Needs to occasionally move inside the office and/or travel to other locations to meet with or provide trainings to supervisors.
  • Constantly operates a computer and occasionally may need to operate printer and other office equipment.
  • Frequently communicates with supervisors and employees who have employment related inquiries.
