The Old Church Moon Series & Holy Volcano present an evening of neoclassical soundscapes by visionary composers Gregory Allison & Slow Meadow.

The New Moon Series celebrates intentional healing through sound, creative visuals, and presence of mind inside Portland’s own Sanctuary of Sound. Each concert in the series is carefully booked to coincide with either the Full or New Moon.

Gregory Allison creates with a single violin a sound that travels across great landscapes. He has toured the world with violin in hand and is endlessly inspired by the instrument’s journey around the globe, especially its use in South Indian Classical music. His live performance blends the Indian Classical melodic improvisation with his classical sensibility as a composer, offering the listener a sonic journey through time and space.
He will perform his 2021 debut album Portal in its entirety, along with new compositions for amplified violin and string trio.

Slow Meadow is Houston multi-instrumentalist Matt Kidd. Kidd’s releases as Slow Meadow have been celebrated by the New York Observer, NPR’s Stephen Thompson, Echoes’ John Diliberto, and who sampled Lachrymosia for the platinum-selling song on his debut album, FREE 6LACK. In 2022, Kidd provided the original soundtrack to the Selena Gomez film, “My Mind & Me.”

He will be performing selections from his 10-year discography for piano and string quartet, with visuals projected on the walls of the Church organ.

Opening ambient set by a very special surprise guest DJ!

I love the violin. It reminds me of the violin lessons I took when I was a child. My mother used to drive me to a lady’s home for the lessons. She had a black cocker spaniel and gave me cookies. They were great memories that helped me appreciate classical style music.

Have not been to a concert in over a year. I just kicked long Covid, so just starting to get out again after 4 months of that illness. This sounds like a beautiful experience.

    • Gregory Allison on March 15, 2024 at 11:38 am

Wow, Stephanie, thank you for sharing that story! We’d love to have you there. We’ll let you know on the 25th if you’ve won 🙌🏻🎻✨

Congratulations on kicking Long Covid! I have had it almost four years and would love to know how you overcame it. I am so grateful to hear you have recovered; that’s inspiring!

This sounds like such a beautiful evening. Our house is always absolute chaos with a 17 yr old and a 2 year old and 2 dogs. What I wouldn’t give for a peaceful, transformative night out with my husband. 😁

  5. Dani on March 20, 2024 at 12:10 am

    Yes please!

  6. Erin on March 20, 2024 at 4:01 am
