Literary Arts is honored to present #1 New York Times bestselling author, Pushkin Industries co-founder, and Revisionist History podcast host, Malcolm Gladwell, in conversation about his new book, Revenge of the Tipping Point. (Interviewer to be announced.)
Gladwell’s seminal work, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference, was published in the year 2000 and launched the global “big idea” publishing phenomenon—a hugely popular genre blending social science, history, pop culture, and business to revolutionize the way we view ourselves and the world. His books have since sold more than 23 million copies in North America alone. In his new book, Gladwell draws on completely fresh case studies to rethink and expand on his original models from The Tipping Point about how trends are born, catch on, and spread.
Revenge of the Tipping Point promises to be Gladwell’s most personal and urgent book yet, as he examines with new eyes the phenomenon of social epidemics in light of the events and lessons of the last twenty-five years.
The book will be released October 1, 2024, and the top two ticket price levels include a copy of the book. The top price level also includes an invitation to a post-event reception with the author. The books will be distributed at the event.
About the book
Revenge of the Tipping Point is another intellectual adventure, both rigorous and page-turning, from a writer at the top of his game. Why in the late 1980s and early ‘90s did Los Angeles become the bank robbery capital of the world? What is the Magic Third and what does it have to do with racial equity? What do big cats and clusters of teen suicide have in common? These are just some of the questions Malcolm Gladwell addresses in this provocative new work, which revisits the phenomenon of social epidemics and examines the ways in which we have learned to tinker with and shape the spread of ideas, viruses, and trends—sometimes with great success, sometimes with disastrous consequences.
Gladwell shows that—whether in neighborhoods, schools, zoos, or conference rooms—today’s epidemics are turbocharged versions of their earlier counterparts, and we are more tempted than ever to try to manipulate tipping points for our own ends. Yet these efforts often come at a cost, creating difficult tradeoffs and unexpected dilemmas. Above all, we must recognize our responsibility—as individuals and as a society—to take tipping points seriously if we want to change our world for the better. With this thought-provoking new book, his most personal yet, Gladwell gives us the insights we need to meet these challenges in innovative ways.

Mr. Gladwell is an interesting man with interesting ideas. It would be a great way to spend an evening to listen to what he’s thinking about lately. I’m worried about the future, and perhaps he can provide some hope. I love these kind of events, but I’m an underemployed library worker who can’t afford to get out as much as I would like. Thank you for offering this opportunity to win a chance for this talk.
