Bikini Kill is a feminist punk band that started in Olympia, WA, and later moved to Washington, DC. The band was active from 1990 to 1998. Although they sometimes switched instruments, the primary lineup was Kathleen Hanna on vocals, Tobi Vail on drums, and Kathi Wilcox on bass. Billy Karren joined on guitar after the band had played several shows as a three-piece. Bikini Kill is credited with instigating the Riot Grrrl movement in the early ’90s via their political lyrics, zines and confrontational live shows.
Bikini Kill started touring in June 1991. In addition to touring the US several times, they also toured Europe, Australia and Japan. In The band recorded and released a demo tape, two EPs, two LPs and three singles. With the exception of their demo tape, which was self-released, all their records were released by the Olympia-based record label, Kill Rock Stars. In 2011, the band cut ties with Kill Rock Stars and began rereleasing their albums through their own label, Bikini Kill Records.
Bikini Kill believed that if all girls started bands the world would change. They actively encouraged women and girls to start bands as a means of cultural resistance. Bikini Kill was inspired by seeing Babes in Toyland play live, and attempted to incite female participation and build feminist community via the punk scene. They used touring as a way to create an underground network between girls who played music, put on shows and made fanzines. This informal network created a forum for multiple female voices to be heard.

ook but hear me out. when i was a teenager, i begged and pleaded with my mom to see bikini kill, but i was denied, with her declaring it was more important to take my geometry test. spoiler: i have never been asked for the radius of a circle, but hearing kathleen kanna in person with my daughter would be a bonding experience for the ages!

well funny story. last time at the Crystal ball room…we were camping at my friends place with a bunch of people for the weekend.
I had the bright idea not to poop all weekend. Assuming the indoor bathrooms were going to be an awful idea. so I loaded up on anti-diarrhea pills.
we showed up early Thursday. it worked great till Saturday night.
so it hit me during the secret set in lola’s room. I ran back to friends to try to take more anti poop pills.
I took a pill and tried to hold it back. NO GO
So I was in NW camped against the back fence.
It was an emergency!
so I grabbed a grocery bag and some TP out of the car, leaned against the fence. dropped pants and gave that grocery bag its weight limit.
While I was doing this it was the secret set so I thought it was home free. no one will know,
But
One of my boys popped out of his tent to figure out who or what was going down on our site.

my wife has been a bikini kill fan since we were in middle school in the 90’s when the tickets were released we had a few days till payday and they sold out so fast i diddnt get a chance. It would be amazing to take her to see them. She fights autoimmune diseases every day and still works as a resource for people in need 9-5. giving what little energy she has to help others. weve been together since we were 12 and married in 2000 this would be an amaxing 26th anniversary surprise.

When I first got into the scene and the music in highschool I found bikini kill and they became my favorite band. Riot grrrl became everything to me and I felt like i actually found a perfect label for how I felt, perfect music for how I felt. Kathleen Hannah tells it like it is. And it would be such a great joy of my life to be able to see her live at least once in my life… also my birthday is August 24th no lie so that seems kismit. I love bikini kill and I cried when I saw how quickly they sold out of my local venue for this tour, I have wanted to see her live for so many years she is my top femme artist. Winning these tickets for my daughter would the absolute best thing I could do for her. My daughter’s birthday is august 24th (seems kismet) and she LOVES Bikini Kill!! She is huge into the punk scene, partially the music, and partially the people. My daughter is disabled and walks with a cane most of the time and sometimes a walker when it’s bad. As someone disabled, loves the punk community and how she is treated by the punk community. She’s always loved music, always loved live shows. But the help and courtesy she gets at punk shows is like none other. Tickets to bikini kill wouldn’t be a dream come true for her 22nd birthday.
