The Sonder Bar
1925 NE 42nd Ave, Portland, OR 97213

Originally from Kalamazoo, MI, Brett Dancer began buying records in 1984, and by 1986 was fully immersed in Chicago house music. He got his start in 1987 spinning parties in the Kalamazoo area, and in 1989 began working in the studio with Jay Denham and Fanon Flowers (Black Nation) before moving to New York City in the early ’90s.

In 1993, he founded Track Mode Recordings, a label with a reputation for quality releases and a roster featuring Theo Parrish, Larry Heard, Anthony Shakir, Alton Miller, Boo Williams, Rick Wade, and others. Now based in Baltimore, Brett continues to be a respected figure in deep house, known for his unique DJ sets and finely tuned productions.

This night will be a homecoming of sorts—Brett was a Portland favorite during the late ’90s and early 2000s, playing regularly for Renegade Rhythms. Expect an evening of deep, soulful grooves in celebration of this legacy.

Lineup:

  • Brett Dancer (Baltimore / Track Mode Recordings)
  • Tom Mitchell (Renegade Rhythms)
  • Tyson Koski (RR / Sonder Bar Resident)

I second that emotion…Brett Dancer is a legend, but it’s been way too long since I’ve seen D-lyte outside of a webcam 😂❤️🕺💯🔥
