Kyle Allen
is a Painter and Environmental Designer living and working in Beaverton Oregon with his wife Julia and son Paul. He received a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Visual Arts from Oregon State University in 2016. He learned art and design by watching his father as a child, but didn’t do much painting of his own until studying visual arts in college. After a trip to the Netherlands in 2018, he was inspired by Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting, it’s complex compositions, use of allegory, depictions of people, and small discoverable details. He has worked professionally as an Environmental / Experiential Designer since 2016, creating storytelling spaces, sculptural installations, and permanent builds across the globe. He paints for pleasure in his free time and experiments in a variety of mediums.  “My work explores an area where nature and human ideas meet in stark contrast to each other. Humanity creates order, abstraction and artifice, whereas nature is a relentless, timeless force that ignores human intervention. In places where the two contrasting ideas meet, there is a strange beauty that is core to the human experience; The mystery of abandoned spaces, discovery of something lost, the surreal beauty of nature taking over. In my work I amplify this idea by introducing kitsch and a sense of humor that make the contrasts more apparent. Art loses its context over time as iconography evolves and meanings are forgotten. My intent is to create images that stand alone without a need for context or narrative, and invite the viewer to investigate and explore the mystery and tensions of these contrasts.”
Lea Barozzi
is a Portland, OR artist whose work has shown all over the world. Her illustrations have been featured on surfboards, skateboards, books, jewelry, and apparel. Lea Barozzi’s subject matter juxtaposes innocent doll-like maidens with distorted natural imagery and psychological symbolism. When she is not covered in paint, she enjoys exploring the Oregon coast, listening to punk rock, and devouring scifi/fantasy books.
Nicholas Vik Laurance (AKA Nic Vik)
I am an artist, and a fourth generation farmer from Mt. Hood. I was born and raised here, left for about ten years, and have been back creating art and farming ever since. I am the co-founder, and owner of the Remains Gallery in Hood River. I have had an artistic side for most of my life, but it was never really recognized until I was a teenager. At the time, I needed a direction in life, and I simply looked at what I was good at and art was the only answer I had. So, from that day on, I started taking it seriously, and have done something creative almost every day since then. Art really saved me, and provided me with direction. It gave me a sense of purpose, and something to constantly practice and improve upon. The subject matter that I paint just comes from my wandering, and overactive imagination. I’ll get an idea in my head, and plot out the details as the painting takes shape. It’s a little difficult to describe, but I suppose you could say that it is a semi-realistic depiction of strange happenings since I don’t rely on much photo reference, and the scenarios that I depict are somewhat obscure/dark/impossible. I try to challenge myself creatively, and technically in the subjects I choose, and strive not to conform to my own “brand” or style. I refuse to paint the same thing over and over in slightly different ways. I think stretching my personal boundaries, and constantly challenging my skillset is what keeps it fun and interesting. Hopefully other people enjoy it as well.
