Founded in the heart of Aloha, Oregon, 15 years ago, Ka Lei Haliʻa O Ka Lokelani has brought cultural education to the Pacific Northwest to empower our lahui here in the diaspora. Rooted in Hawaiian practices, Kumu Leialoha Kaʻula brings indigenous knowledge and reminds us that we are forever students. For over a decade, Ka Lei Haliʻa O Ka Lokelani has awarded over $25,000 in educational scholarships that have empowered haumana to further their education, built partnerships with organizations that elevate the need for accessible resources for our NHPI community, and, most importantly, a sense of identity when living so far from our homeland. As our kupuna have once paved the way, we hope to continue to cultivate generational knowledge and encourage our lahui to holomua.
As Ka Lei Haliʻa O Ka Lokelani celebrates their 15th year anniversary of sharing Hawaiʻiʻs history and culture with the Pacific Northwest, we invite you to join us for an evening filled with oli, mele and hula. Featuring legendary, multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners and Grammy nominated group Hoʻokena, Ka Lei Haliʻa O Ka Lokelani will take you on a journey through the mele (songs) that have filled the airwaves of Hawaiʻi for decades. Joining Hoʻokena is the legend himself, Moon Kauakahi of the Makaha Sons. The 13th Annual E Ala E Hula Exhibition theme this year is E Hoʻi I Ka Piko, return to the source. A reminder to all those who have moved from the islands that Hawaiʻi will forever be our piko.
