About Us
Social Good Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive influences for individuals, communities, and the environment. Our physical home, Social Good Place, is a collaborative workspace and charity incubation hub in Sunnyside, Portland. We serve as a launchpad for social enterprises and a gathering space for the community to host meetings, celebrations, weddings, and speaking engagements. We are looking for a creative, organized, and people-focused Event Coordinator to lead our event operations.
Role Overview
The Event Coordinator is the strategic lead for all aspects of event management at Social Good Place. Event Coordinator is responsible for networking and outbound sales of our event venue, managing the Event Support Staff, overseeing the event calendar, ensuring client satisfaction from booking to teardown, and maintaining the highest standards of facility safety and cleanliness during events. You will be the primary point of contact for external clients hosting private events and the internal team leader for community programming.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Management
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise Event Support Staff
- Create shift schedules based on the event calendar, ensuring adequate coverage for nights and weekends.
- Conduct pre-event briefings and post-event debriefs with staff.
- Foster a culture of excellent customer service, diligence, and safety among the support team.
- Monitor performance, provide feedback, and manage conflict resolution within the team.
2. Event Planning & Client Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external event clients (weddings, corporate retreats, community gatherings).
- Manage the full event lifecycle: inquiry, contract negotiation, site visits, run-of-show creation, day-of execution, and post-event follow-up.
- Collaborate with clients to conceptualize creative and inclusive event experiences that align with their goals and SGP’s mission.
- Oversee budget tracking for event rentals, including vendor costs, staffing, and supply expenses.
3. Operations & Facility Oversight
- Manage the master event calendar (internal member programming and external rentals), avoiding conflicts and optimizing space usage.
- Ensure all event setups adhere to fire codes and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with vendors (catering, AV, furniture rental) and oversee deliveries.
- Maintain inventory of event supplies (linens, audio-visual gear, tables, chairs, cleaning supplies) and place orders as needed.
- Perform final walkthroughs of spaces (including restrooms and common areas) to ensure they are “event-ready” and welcoming.
4. Business Development and Community Engagement
- Collaborate with leadership to design “open house” events or pop-up activations specifically designed to showcase the venue to prospective renters.
- Proactive Outreach: Conduct daily/weekly outbound sales activities including cold calling, email campaigns, and direct messaging to potential clients (corporate teams, wedding planners, non-profits).
- Networking: Represent Social Good Place at local industry mixers, chamber of commerce meetings, wedding expos, and non-profit networks to build a robust pipeline of leads.
- Client Acquisition: Identify target markets; pitch Social Good Place as a destination for mission-driven organizations.
- Partnerships: Cultivate strategic relationships with local vendors (caterers, florists, AV teams, photographers) to create referral networks that drive inbound bookings.
- Partner with the Director of Community and Marketing to help conceptualize and execute member-centric programming that drives engagement.
- Act as a brand ambassador for Social Good Place, embodying our values of collaboration and social impact.
5. Safety & Crisis Management
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols during high-volume events.
- Handle escalated guest issues or emergencies with professionalism and rapid problem-solving skills.
- Conduct regular safety audits of event equipment and facilities.
Qualifications
- Business Development: Networking and creating outbound sales opportunities.
- Leadership: Proven ability to schedule, motivate, and manage part-time or temporary staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate client needs into operational instructions.
- Organization: Outstanding time management and multitasking abilities; comfortable juggling multiple events simultaneously.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs occasionally (supervising setup/teardown), stand for long periods, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Valid Driver’s License & Vehicle: Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable personal transportation.

Working Conditions
- This role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as event demand dictates.
- Must be able to work in a shared community space that includes active workshops, offices, and open gathering areas.
- Travel may be required for occasional off-site vendor meetings or partner events.
