Two Rivers & Weird Sisters seeks an experienced, organized, responsible, dynamic leader and multi-tasker to manage a small but talented sales staff in a bustling creative multi-use retail shop. Must be passionate about customer service, reading and fiber arts. This is a chance to be part of a thriving independent bookstore and yarn shop sharing a unique space in the heart of downtown St. Johns. Two Rivers and Weird Sisters have been in operation for six years, are open seven days a week and also operate a robust online shop.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the owners, manage the day-to-day operation of the bookstore and yarn shop. The store manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the store and delivery of excellent customer service to everyone we serve. Responsibilities include assisting owners with staff scheduling, daily task execution and delegation, owning customer service issues, maintaining adherence of store policies, inventory and POS management, maintenance of store appearance, and assistance with events and marketing.

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Docs a must
  • Retail bookselling and craft supply experience a must
  • Knowledge of book industry operations such as distributors, publishers, Edelweiss
  • Management experience, a strong plus
  • Must have intermediate knitting skills at minimum, with some crochet skills; advanced knitting knowledge, a plus
  • This is a fun, active and physically demanding job that requires hours of standing, walking, cleaning, ladder work, lifting of boxes (under 50 lbs).
  • Must be available to work up to 35 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead team by providing thoughtful feedback to owners on daily workflow improvements, provide staff training as required, manage shift coverage, daily task allocation, and maintain a positive, productive, inclusive and enjoyable working environment for everyone.
  • Manage inventory, oversight of special orders, receiving, shipping, and return of overstocked or defective merchandise, managing out of stocks and coordination of annual inventory utilizing the store POS.
  • Supervise and assist with events from planning to execution.
  • Manage the processing and fulfillment of all special orders, online and in-store.
  • Run daily reporting to review adequate inventory levels of key in-stocks, track and identify order issues, and product issues.
  • Oversee merchandising of the store including in-store and window displays and store cleanliness.
  • Train new staff members on store procedures and policies and the POS system.
  • Ensure store policies are being upheld, engage with customers, hand sell, drive sales goals and support staff.
  • Maintain promotions in store and ensure they align with marketing schedule including POS discount codes, signage, visual displays, online shop offerings.
  • Assist with social media accounts
