Singer, rapper, and writer Dessa has made a career of bucking genres and defying expectations—she’s appeared on the Billboard charts, recorded with the GRAMMY-winning Minnesota Orchestra, contributed to The Hamilton Mixtape and the RBGdocumentary soundtrack, and performed at clubs and festivals on five continents. She’s written for The New York Times [nytimes.com] and National Geographic Traveler [nationalgeographic.com], presented a TED talk [ted.com] with more than 2 million views, and published a memoirMy Own Devices [penguinrandomhouse.com] that was recognized by NPR and Amazon as a best book of 2018. Dessa also hosts the science podcast Deeply Human [smarturl.it]—a co-production of the BBC, American Public Media, and iHeartRadio—that features surprisingly intimate interviews with leading researchers on human behavior. The LA Times wrote that Dessa “sounds like no one else;” NPR’s All Songs Considered called her “a national treasure.” On the stage and on the page, her style is defined by ferocity, wit, tenderness, and candor. We are so excited Dessa is coming to Oregon! If I were to be one of the lucky ones to receive a gift of tix to this show I will be offering into collective field my own bioelectromagnetic vibes – bringing de-light and some fab dis/abled queerness of Kalapuya and Aotearoa, ocean and mountains. Bringing an appreciation for the endeavor of reclaiming science for betterment of human kind (am also an indig. scholartist weaving science, art, and somatics – working on the micro in service to the macro). And coming to thoroughly enjoy Dessa and the music!!!
I would so love to see her live! Have been a fan for years and have not been able to yet. Plus the Aladdin is a great venue – being able to return after it’s covid shut down would be awesome!!!
I’ve loved Dessa since her early days with the group Medida and have of course followed her as her success has grown. I’d love to attend this show which is unfortunately out of my price range right now. Thank you!
“On the stage and on the page, her style is defined by ferocity, wit, tenderness, and candor.” I can dig it! She’s cute too, haven’t researched her music at all, however I have a hunch that I would really enjoy the experience of her sounds. Please, may I..
I saw her at a panel at NerdCon Stories ( a con that only lasted 2 but glorious years in 2015-2016) in Minneapolis and became a fan shortly there after, would love to be able to see her perform live again 😀
“Fire Drills” is one of my favorite songs, it verbalizes so many things I’ve thought and felt but have not been able to express.
Love Dessa and Doomtree. Been listening to The Bullpen on repeat and have always hoped to see her live!
I’d love to attend – I’m a long-time Dessa fan! And it would be great to get out of the house and have a “normal” night out after a longggg time in.
New Dessa fan here! I’d love to take my partner to this!
I saw her open for Thievery Corporation and she was good!
Love Dessa! Haven’t seen her in ten years, would love to go
