Assistant Manager

Position Overview

Five Stride is hiring a part time assistant manager for our retail roller skate shop in NE Portland. The position would work between 20 to 30 hours per week and Saturday availability is a must. Our shop is an owner operated business and this position would work directly with one of our owners to assist in managing the day to day operations of the shop. You would work with a small team of staff who are excited about roller skating and committed to serve the Portland skate community. You would work closely with our customers to provide customized recommendations for their specific needs. Most customer interactions last between 15 and 60 minutes. In addition, you would be responsible for additional tasks that can be completed before or after the shop opens and between customer visits. This position would have key holder responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide a friendly and welcoming environment for customers.

• Provide individualized support to each customer- find out their needs and recommend skates and gear that is right for the customer

• Fit customers for skates by measuring their feet and recommending a proper boot for their skating discipline, foot shape, level of skating, and desired features

• Explain the benefits and functions of products, including proper use

• Provide information about warranties, care, and maintenance of purchases

• Receive and process cash and credit payments through our POS system

• Collect detailed information for special orders which are submitted through an internal process; Submit special orders with our vendors

• Complete a sales record at the end of each day; prepare weekly sales reports

• Organize and process merchandise exchanges both online and in store

• Process incoming skate repairs and services

• Maintain the appearance of the sales floor by organizing items and replenishing stock as necessary

• Keep store clean- sweep, mop, dust, clean windows, clean bathroom, etc

• Stay current with shop products and pricing

• Unpack orders and manage inventory in the POS system

• Ship customer orders and mail orders and assist customers with online orders

• Update product information for online shop

• Be responsible for shop email and ensure customers are responded to

• Provide support/mentoring for other Sales Associates & new staff

Required Qualifications

• Available to work Saturdays

• Experience or interest in roller skating

• Previous retail management experience in a high volume, customer focused retail environment

• Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, and manage time effectively

• Ability to shift between tasks with customer service being a top priority

• Excellent people skills; ability to listen, communicate, and relate to others on a personal level

• Excellent communication skills; including knowing when to ask for help

• Responsible, reliable, and punctual

• Ability to problem-solve on the fly

• Familiarity with Google Docs, Word, and Excel is a must

• Able to lift 30 pounds and lift boxes overhead

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hand tools and power tools is a plus

• Experience working in Shopify

• Experience with online sales interfaces
