New Constellations are Portland based duo Harlee Case (vocals) and Josh Smith (multi-instrumentalist and producer). As childhood best friends, Josh recorded Harlee’s first songs in his bedroom when she was 14. Josh spent the next decade playing and touring in bands around the northwest, while Harlee was spending her time building a large community around female empowerment and the legalization of plant medicine.
After 15 years of working on music separately, they have teamed up to form New Constellations. Blending powerful vocals, dancy beats, catchy guitar hooks, and energetic live shows, they have caught the attention of listeners with their debut single “Hot Blooded’ earning nearly 3 million streams in its first year.
Night Heron
Portland indie R&B band Night Heron is back with a new record, titled ‘Instructions for Night.’
But what, exactly, are the instructions? They are whispery, and multiple, and mainly tell us what not to do. “Stop crying / Go back to sleep” they tell us. (Sleeping Boy). They remind us that “martyrdom’s been done before” (Dreamz).
Most art strives to be at once particular and universal, and Night Heron achieves the ideal in these sad duets. The global crisis-our common claustrophobic constraint-has proved generative. The question the universal poses to the particular: will this constraint save us or seal our doom? Neither, the music seems to answer. We are not doomed or saved-we are transformed.
COVID Policy
All attendees must either: 1) be at least two weeks past receiving full COVID vaccination and show a vaccination card along with photo ID, or 2) show proof of negative PCR COVID test within 72 hours preceding the show, along with photo ID. Test must be medically administered. At-home tests not accepted. All ticketholders must wear face masks at all times except when eating or drinking.
