Crystal Ballroom
1332 W Burnside St, Portland, OR 97209
On an otherwise normal day in late 1966, Fred Cole ran out of gas in Portland, Oregon. This seemingly insignificant moment was the first domino in a cascade of music and love that kept him anchored to the Rose City. Rightfully called ‘a cult hero of the Pacific Northwest music scene,‘ by the New York Times, he and wife (‘kickass garage bass player’) Toody, influenced an entire generation of PNW musicians.
Here at the Crystal Ballroom, Fred left an indelible mark – from his early days in The Weeds playing countless shows at the newly reopened Crystal Ball to his Dead Moon reunion show for Crystal Ballroom’s 100th birthday party. So we invite you to join us as we celebrate Fred, a true Portland icon and rock legend. Toody Cole anchors the night along with Jenny Don’t & the Spurs and Monica Nelson & The Jack London Trio.
Jenny Don’t & the Spurs
Jenny Don’t & the Spurs have been pioneering their own path in the music world for over a dozen years. Known for their high-energy Country Western style and captivating stage presence, they’ve garnered a global following with their infectious enthusiasm, and extensive discography, featuring three albums, an EP, and nine singles.
Monica Nelson & The Jack London Trio
Monica’s vocal apparatus is truly a rare & exquisite instrument. The operatic quality she brings to her performance is often transcendent, sometimes meteoric, but never half-hearted. Another space in that local music Hall of Fame should be reserved for Nelson whose pioneering work with the Obituaries in the late 80’s set the standard in the NW for female punk singers.’ -S.P.
