Internationally recognized and Principal Cellist, Carter Brey, currently performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra headlines a Limited Engagement concert, “Prairie Fire – An American Frontier Rhapsody”, with the Portland Choir & Orchestra.
Tickets for the Friday night show at 7 pm and the Saturday afternoon Matinee at 2 pm are available now and can be purchased at a 20% discount through May 1. Tickets can be purchased directly through the Choir’s website, www.musicinportland.org. The Church has ample handicap parking and accessible seating.
This is a MUST SEE event, suitable for all ages. It is not often that someone who has performed as a guest artist with prominent American and Internationally recognized Orchestras will be in concert in the Portland area. This is the first and only time Mr. Brey will perform here. Mr. Brey will play several of his own original compositions as part of the concert.
The concert repertoire also includes such favorites as:
- God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand
- A traditional Shaker hymn arranged by Ryan Murphy, Simple Gifts
- A new arrangement of Home on the Range (including a fun harmonica solo)
- A frontier, knee slapping tune arranged by Mack Wilberg, Cindy
- An American Folksong, arranged by James Erb, Shenandoah
- America the Beautiful and several more.
*** Of special note: Winners of the Portland Choir & Orchestra sponsored “Youth Musician Scholarship” program will also be announced during the concert series. More information about the music scholarships, open to students in grades 6 – 12, can be found at www.musicinportland.org.
