Experience True Movie Expertise with the award-winning expert opinions of Gregg Turkington, as well as Health and Body Improvements from wellness guru Dr. Newman (Tim) Heidecker – It’s an evening of movie information and alternative education that will transform your life completely. A comedic cinematic universe, a grand satire of America itself–Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington’s On Cinema has built a dedicated cult following as a sprawling comedic soap opera masquerading as a disastrous movie review show.
Throughout the years, On Cinema has manifested itself through a universe of media. The centerpiece is On Cinema At The Cinema, where two codependent and delusional losers review movies in the style of Siskel and Ebert, but it becomes clear they have more interest in their own conflicting agendas than talking about the movies they may or may not have seen. In the years since On Cinema originally debuted in 2011, the OC Universe has expanded to include multiple spin-off series, including Decker, a Steven Seagal/Trump-inspired action spy spoof than ran for several seasons on Adult Swim; the unprecedented yearly Oscar-night live 4-hour specials, which have become the centerpiece of countless Oscar-night viewing parties and live movie theater screenings; the stage show, coming to the UK for the first time ever; a coffee-table episode guide book; a 5-part courtroom murder trial; and a feature length film (2019’s Mister America). A favorite of Marvel’s Kevin Feige, Marvel incorporated On Cinema into all three Ant-Man movies, and On Cinema’s rabid fanbase includes notables such as Jack Black, Bob Odenkirk, and Jonah Hill. On Cinema is the closest America has to Alan Partridge: a singular and prescient satire of American culture in its late stages.
The full live show is a combination variety show and movie review panel, featuring the usual internal strife, grandstanding, and petty battles that are the hallmark of Heidecker and Turkington’s on-screen On Cinema personas.
