Boom Arts is proud to present the National Premiere of Wayqeycuna, a new one-man show by queer, Indigenous, Argentine artist Tiziano Cruz.

After touring major international performance festivals, Wayqeycuna will make its U.S. premiere this April in Portland, Oregon. Blending personal storytelling, film, ritual, song, and more, this interdisciplinary one-man show chronicles Cruz’s return to his Indigenous community in northern Argentina. In Wayqeycuna, Cruz shares his honest attempts at releasing himself from the legacy of colonial culture and its enduring effects on his language, environment, and the spread of homophobia in his community.

Inspired by the quipu, an Andean system of knotted cords used to record memory and knowledge, Wayqeycuna traces Cruz’s journey back to his childhood in the Andean north. Through a poetic layering of testimony, ritual, and performance, he reassembles fragments of personal and collective history, with each knot an invocation of his ancestry, each gesture an act of resistance against erasure. Wayqeycuna unfolds as an act of return and repair: a lament for what has been taken, and a celebration of survival, memory, and a hopeful pathway forward.
