SYNOPSIS:
Influenced by the artwork of Gustav Klimt, traditional Tarot card illustrations, and unraveling scrolls of traditional Japanese storytelling- director Eiichi Yamamoto brings us the third film of Animerama, a series of erotic-themed anime feature films produced by Osamu Tezuka from the late 1960’s and early 70’s.
Belladonna of Sadness is a bewitching tale of vengeance inspired by Jules Michelet’s non-fiction book: Satanism and Witchcraft. Set in a lush and twisted world, the story starts with the marriage between a woman named Jeanne, and an ordinary man. As they seek their king’s blessings, he rapes her. Jeanne then seeks vengeance from the aid of the Devil himself and is transformed into a powerful witch, animating her revenge before your eyes in a psychedelic whirlwind of color. This admirable triumph will leave you shocked and wanting more.
About 5th Avenue Cinema
Oregon’s only student run cinema has been operating non-profit since 1989. Our goals are to provide further education for PSU students interested in film, as well as a fun place for people to see something they wouldn’t ordinarily get to see on the big screen. The general public is always invited to attend and there is FREE POPCORN at every show. Our feature films are presented on 35mm film, with the occasional screening on our rare Norelco 16mm projector.
