Network (Digital)
Dir. Sidney Lumet (1976); USA, 121m
Starring: Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch

FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH AT 7:00PM & 9:30PM
SATURDAY, APRIL 27TH AT 7:00PM & 9:30PM
SUNDAY, APRIL 28TH AT 3:00PM

Conceived, written, produced and released during the ongoing Watergate crisis, Network was Chayefsky’s meticulously researched, highly articulate attack on the demoralisation and dehumanisation of American life as exemplified by the crude commercialisation of television news. (The Guardian, 2015) Network centres on a once celebrated network anchor, the unhinged Howard Beale (Peter Finch), who, once struck with his notice, announces his plans to commit suicide in protest the following week. Instead, Beale’s increasingly wild performances on air make him a nationwide hero, a spokesman for inarticulate rage and a visionary, who encourages his frustrated audience to shout his slogan (and collective truth) from their windows: “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!”

About 5th Avenue Cinema
Oregon’s only student run cinema has been operating non-profit since 1989. Our goals are to provide further education for PSU students interested in film, as well as a fun place for people to see something they wouldn’t ordinarily get to see on the big screen. The general public is always invited to attend and there is FREE POPCORN at every show. Our feature films are presented on 35mm film, with the occasional screening on our rare Norelco 16mm projector.
