Description of Position:
The Winery Tasting Room Assistant Manager (AM) is responsible for assisting the Winery Tasting Room Manager in day to day operations of our tasting room, wine club, wine club events, and interfacing with customers in person and via phone and email. During their shift the Winery Tasting Room Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising Tasting Room staff, completing administrative duties as assigned by manager (i.e. submitting Show Reports, updating and printing menus and drink tracker, etc.), effectively dealing with personnel and customer service issues as they arise, and must be available to help solve & troubleshoot any problems that come up during the course of a shift. They will serve as the Manager on Duty in the Tasting Room when the Tasting Room Manager is out of the office. The Winery Tasting Room Assistant Manager is also required to comply with and enforce all McMenamins property wide and departmental policies and procedures. Each McMenamins employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to management in a timely manner. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history and products. Other duties are to be completed as assigned by management.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage day to day operations of the Tasting Room
  • Respond to Edgefield Winery and Edgefield Wine Club inquiries in Tasting Room Manager’s absence
  • Assist Manager with building new and retaining existing club members through engagement, consistent follow-up, and outstanding customer service
  • Assist with all on property Wine Club events, may be asked to work events at other locations
  • Work with the Tasting Room Staff to promote sales Assist Tasting Room manager with staff training, labor monitoring, and employee evaluations
  • Give tours of the Winery
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements of the Job:

  • Previous winery/tasting room experience preferred
  • Wine knowledge required Winery production and/or winery sales software experience preferred
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook required
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills a must
  • Ability to work well independently and also as member of the team
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under a deadline
  • Ability to supervise other employees in a positive and constructive manner
  • Flexible schedule, including days evening, weekend, and holidays availability
  • Inventory management skills preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead small wine tasting events

Essential Job Function:

  • Provide an excellent experience for our customers in the winery and effectively manage all duties associated with the daily operations of the Tasting Room
  • Safely practice heavy lifting and carrying with the help of another person, if necessary, with frequent heavy lifting up to 60lbs.
  • Ability to be on feet for long periods of time including frequent stair climbing
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Repetitive movements including bending, pushing, pulling, twisting and stooping
  • Repetitive use of hands including fine hand manipulation while working on computer keyboard
  • Repetitive use of hands
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and customers
  • Work around cleaning agents and other caustic chemicals
  • Work around and with heavy equipment
  • Work with numbers and orders
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers and customers
