Author Terry Tempest Williams tells us that “storytelling is a mirror into our shared humanity.” On June 13, Portland Story Theater returns with Urban Tellers®, a monthly event showcasing the real, true stories of ordinary people. The stories people tell at Urban Tellers® are personal narratives shaped by the truth of the present moment. Each show features six tellers and they each have about 10 minutes to share a story about an important event in their lives; a defining moment. The stories that result are sometimes funny, always touching, and often surprising.

At the June show you’ll hear about a young man embarking on a life in theater, a woman searching for the truth of her father’s life, a yoga instructor learning to take her own advice, and a young woman starting her life over in Paris. Featuring Daniel LaForce, Peggy Doherty, Raahi Reddy, Corrine Ranard, Heidi Yorkshire and Marcia Haque.

The price of admission is ridiculously low and every show is like a party, with free snacks and affordable drinks. Hosted by Portland Story Theater founders, Lawrence Howard and Lynne Duddy, whose quirky, eccentric style has been compared to Burns and Allen, Stiller and Meara, and even those crazy SNL middle-school music teachers, the Culps.

Warning: Portland Story Theater’s stories may contain explicit language, assorted escapades of a questionable nature, and various examples of extremely poor judgment, along with profound insights, deep revelations, and moments of truth, triumph, and transformation. 21+
