Mississippi Ave Street Fair - 2010
Mississippi Street Fair Photo by Brewcaster

The Mississippi Street Fair is this weekend and it is billed as the “Largest Street Fair” in Portland clocking in at over 30,000 people during the day! Looking at Brewcaster’s picture here, hard to disagree with those numbers. There are several stages of music, and over 200 vendors!

It is going to be packed, so you get there early if you want to get a place to sit and enjoy the day. You can see a lot of pictures here on flickr we took way back in 2007 when it wasn’t a complete horde of people like these days.

The annual Mississippi Ave. Street Fair is a community-building event that celebrates the neighbors, businesses and organizations that make their home in the Mississippi Avenue neighborhood (from N. Fremont to N. Skidmore on Mississppi Ave). The event honors history and tradition while embracing diversity and sustainability.

The event is brought to you by the Historic Mississippi Ave Business Association (HMBA) & the Boise Neighborhood Association (BNA). A portion of the proceeds goes to Boise-Eliot Elementary and the Boise Business Youth Unity Project.

The event is closed to vehicular traffic and car parking is extremely limited. We recommend you take transit, ride your bike or carpool to the event. Bike parking is plentiful and un-attended. Bring a lock to secure your bike.

There are more than 200 independent vendors up and down the street. ATMs are available and most vendors prefer cash.

The Mississippi Street Fair is a gigantic event with more than 30,000 people all day long. The streets are crowded and it could be a very hot day. These conditions can be dangerous for pets, so we kindly ask that you leave your critters at home where they’ll be safer and happier.
