Runners and walkers are invited to bring their dogs, bring pictures of their cats and sign up for 24th annual Walk/Run for the Animals, a fundraising event organized by the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW). The event takes places on Saturday, May 2, at Esther Short Park in Vancouver.
Beginning in the heart of downtown Vancouver at Esther Short Park, runners and walkers will participate on separate courses. Walkers will enjoy a 3-mile walk along the Columbia River, while runners will participate in one of the only dog-friendly runs, an out-and-back 5-K chip-timed run through Ft. Vancouver Park. Both the walk and run will have water stations for people and dogs.
All registered walkers or runners receive a goodie bag, dog bandana, access to the Party in the Park after-event and a chance to earn prizes for first place runners (woman, man, runner under 13, and fastest dog) and through fundraising.
Registration for the event is now available at www.southwesthumane.org/walk-run. The cost is $35 and allows participants to register individually, create or join a team and setup their own fundraising page. Team fundraisers are eligible for monthly prizes that include a pizza party and bowling at Big Al’s, catered lunch or delivered race packets.
Advance check-in for the Walk/Run will take place at HSSW (1100 NE 192nd) on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m., or beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, at Esther Short Park.
