One of the Northwest’s newest holiday traditions is “Christmas in the Garden,” a charming event featuring a traditional Christmas market and light display in The Oregon Garden’s Rediscovery Forest. The second annual Christmas in the Garden will take place from 4 to 9pm each Thursday through Sunday from November 28 to December 21.
“Last year, nearly 13,000 people visited our Christmas market, enjoying an authentic and cozy holiday experience,” explained Brittney Hatteberg, marketing director for The Oregon Garden. “This year we’ve added more dates, doubled the number of lights and increased our vendors. We are so excited to continue to build on this wonderful holiday tradition.”
Event visitors will board a Holiday Express tram, where they will be whisked through The Garden to arrive at the beautifully decorated Rediscovery Forest decked out in 300,000 holiday lights. Visitors can shop from a number of artisan vendors selling handmade goods, sip traditional glühwein and other adult beverages, listen to festive holiday music and carolers, and take in the smells and tastes of roasted nuts and holiday foods. Fire pits are scattered throughout the forest for warmth, as well as a number of lit vignettes (including a glowing, nine-foot-tall Leg Lamp).
Admission is $5 per person ($4 for Oregon Garden members) and free for children ages 4 and under. Silverton residents save $1 each Thursday evening with proof of residency. Each paid admission receives five $1 vouchers to be used at any booth in the market, including food and beverage. Vouchers may be used one per booth, per purchase, per person. Pay admission during the first visit, and return to Christmas in the Garden for free for the duration of the event. Parking is complimentary during the event.
Christmas in the Garden will also feature additional events on select dates, including:
- Nov. 29: Civil War Football Game Showing, projected on a big screen courtesy of Wave Broadband. Come dressed in Duck or Beaver logoed apparel, and receive $1 off admission.
- Dec. 12-14: Visits and photos with Santa Claus and his live reindeer (there will be no official photographer for Santa photos, parents can take their own at no cost).
- Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14 & 21: A Christmas Carol, a two-person play performed by Traveling Lantern Theater Co. that’s ideal for all ages, beginning at 6:30pm (included with event admission).
The Oregon Garden Resort is offering a special overnight package starting at $99 on weeknights or $119 on weekends for two people; packages include accommodations, two tickets to Christmas in the Garden, two beverages served in a commemorative mug, continental breakfast buffet and admission to The Oregon Garden.
