Based on Tarell Alvin McCarney’s unpublished semi-autobiographical play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, this coming-of-age drama unfolds through three stages in the life of the main character: Little (his youth), Chiron (his adolescence), and Black (his young adulthood.)From the fiasco of the 2017 Oscar awards (“This is not a joke, Moonlight has won best picture”) to becoming commonly cited as one of the best films of the 21st century, Moonlight has been breaking firsts left and right. It has become the first film with an all-black cast, the first LGBTQ-related film, AND the second-lowest-grossing film domestically to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

About 5th Avenue Cinema
Oregon’s only student run cinema has been operating non-profit since 1989. Our goals are to provide further education for PSU students interested in film, as well as a fun place for people to see something they wouldn’t ordinarily get to see on the big screen. The general public is always invited to attend and there is FREE POPCORN at every show. Our feature films are presented on 35mm film, with the occasional screening on our rare Norelco 16mm projector.
