Portland Youth Philharmonic opens their exciting 96th season at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday, November 9, 2019, with George Gershwin‘s expressive, jazz inspired Piano Concerto, performed by 14–year-old Joshua Ji, winner of the 2019 Portland Piano International / SOLO Piano Concerto Competition.

PYP’s fall opener also features the pulsating ‘Batuque’ by Brazilian composer Oscar Lorenzo Fernández and Amy Beach’s ‘Gaelic’ Symphony, the first symphony published by an American woman composer in 1894.

Conducted by David Hattner, PYP’s Musical Director.

      My husband and I love classical music but havent gotten to see a Philharmonic. We would love to go. I think it’s great that Portland is giving this opportunity! Thank you for the chance to go and for raising awareness for this.

    This sounds wonderful! Would love to take my little friend and, although I know Gershwin, I haven’t heard of the other composers! AND I have never seen a children’s philharmonic (or… sheesh, I don’t know if I’ve seen ANY philharmonic, now that I think about it!)
