Each month a conservation, animal care or wildlife science professional will share their knowledge and experience saving animals across the planet, from the forests of Borneo to the skies of the Pacific Northwest.

The November pub talk will feature Travis Koons, who oversees the Oregon Zoo’s bird area, and the zoo’s non-lead hunting education coordinator Leland Brown, who will discuss the zoo’s work in bringing the critically endangered California condor back from the brink of extinction and eliminating threats it faces in the wild.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the talk begins at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A.

I used to volunteer at the Oregon Zoo and they do great things! Can’t wait to hear what they say at this talk.

Please sign us up! Would be a great talk — have been looking for a Portland equivalent to the Conservation Biology lecture series at the University of Washington in Seattle. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent equivalent in Portland, though there are sporadic conservation talks at Patagonia downtown (if anyone knows of other talks we’re missing, please post ’em here in the comments, too!). Anyway, from what i know of the zoo’s Condor breeding & recovery program, this is bound to be a great talk. Imagine condors in the Columbia Gorge again!

Being a veterinarian I have always been an animal advocate. In vet school, we had a raptor course where were treated, rehabilitated and released (when appropriate) native raptors. One time I accidentally released a Turkey Vulture in a classroom….that was chaos!!! Haha! Would love to see this!

I love California condors. They are such a link to our prehistoric past. To not save them would be unethical. Thank you for all of the work that you do…..
