Works by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis honor Oregon Repertory Singers’ long relationship with the composer, who was first invited to the United States by ORS years ago. Celebrating the choir’s present and future, ORS performs Mid-Winter Songs and more by world-renowned composer and visiting special guest Morten Lauridsen.

The concert marks both the opening of ORS’ 45th season and the release of their new album “Shadows on the Stars,” featuring music by Dr. Lauridsen and other Pacific NW Composers.

I recently heard a few pieces of Mister Lauridsen’s works on the radio and I was captivated beyond words by his compositions. As soon as I arrived home, I instantly began searching for more examples of his work on the internet. I have not stopped listening or searching for more. This would be treasured event to see him and others as they continue to share their rare gifts of music with the masses.

Would love to see this concert with my teen daughter who sings in her school choir. It would be an amazing opportunity to expose her to this level of singing!

Veljo Tormis’ “Curse Upon Iron” gives me chills – *very* interested in this concert.

When I was in college we sang many estonian songs. Tormis was one of my favorites. We ended up touring in Estonia and meeting Tormis and working with him which was a huge honor! Tormis’s music has had a special place in my heart ever since.
