3rd Annual Kriekfest: Cherry Beers (and Ciders and Wine)
July 28, 2018
11a-7p | $40 ADV, $45 Doors | All Ages
More info: merctickets.com

Hood River Waterfront Park
650 Portway Ave, Hood River, OR 97031

Kriekfest returns for its third annual inception, harvesting an even bigger basket of cherry beers (and ciders and a sparkling cherry wine). Hood Valley’s abundance of cherry orchards serves as the inspiration for the largest celebration devoted exclusively to barrel-aged cherry beverages that will take place at Waterfront Park directly on the Columbia River. Tickets are available at merctickets.com/go/Kriekfest. Admission is $40 and includes 20 drink tickets. If the event does not sell out in advance gate admission will be $45 and will come with 18 tickets. All paid attendees will receive a commemorative stemmed glass. The festival this year takes place Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Kriek, Flemish for cherry, is a four-centuries-old style of spontaneously-fermented, lambic ales aged on cherries (pits and all). This year’s lineup features an even larger collection of world-class examples imported from Belgium for Kriekfest including Brasserie Cantillon, Brouwerij Drei Fonteinen, Brouwerij Boon, Brouwerij Brasserie De Ranke, and Hanssens Artisanaal. Cherry-growing regions are natural for such beers so it’s no surprise the Hood River Valley’s Belgian-inspired breweries make excellent krieks. The 30-plus lineup is rounded out mostly by Oregon breweries and a few from other states and countries.

This family-and-dog-friendly celebration of cherry-laced drinks features a Cherry Marketplace and other delicious food from Hood River caterers including special cherry gelatos created by Cicci Gelato. 17. Danielle C July 5, 2018 at 4:09 pm #

Wow, an event for Kriek! There is a lot of history behind this brewing style; I’m grateful that it still exists so we can continue to enjoy these cherry-fueled creations from all over the world. This is so cool, and I can’t believe it’s happening in the most beautiful place in the world: Hood River, Oregon. I am really looking forward to seeing what Cascade will present since they are so well known for their quality sours. It is also very exciting to see Modern Times on the list because they have only recently expanded to Portland from San Diego, California in the past few months. They make some good quality beer though, and we love them for it. As for the imports, I’ve tried the Lindemans Kriek Lambic before, and it was great, but it will be nice to compare it to more traditional styles like Hanssens.
