Who doesn’t love doughnuts? Especially the magical Voodoo Doughnuts founded right here in our Oregon home.

A few months after it took a big shot of private equity to fuel a national expansion, Voodoo Doughnut appointed their new CEO, Chris Schultz, to take the helm.

Chris, who most recently served as the senior vice president MOD Pizza, has taken on the role of CEO for Portland’s quirkiest doughnut company. He’ll be joining us the morning of March 22nd at the Power Breakfast to tell the full story.

He brings more than 30 years of restaurant industry experience to Voodoo, including stints with Starbucks and MOD, the latter of which he helped grow from one location to more than 300 globally. Schultz is leaving MOD just as the company announced it had raised $33 million and secured an additional $40 million line of credit to aid in its own expansion.

Voodoo Doughnut hires a pizza exec as new CEO – Portland Business Journal

Back in September, Voodoo announced it had partnered with the San Francisco private equity firm Fundamental Capital to embark on a national expansion even more ambitious than one it’s pursued over the past few years. The company currently has six locations in four states, but plans are to take Voodoo to many more of the masses. Schultz says he’s looking forward to leading that charge.

“Voodoo has all the ingredients to go from the little company that could to the next big thing,” said founder Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson. “We will be retaining all that’s wonderful to make sure the Voodoo that’s done so well isn’t lost as we introduce ourselves to new customers, communities and employees.”

Don’t miss out on the chance to hear how this Portland staple is going big with the leadership of our Power Breakfast speaker, Chris Schultz!

Many in Portland have turned away from Voodoo calling them “overrated.” But even after all these years, I still love them. Sure they are overly sweet, but they are the fluffiest I have tasted. Their creativity does scream “Portland” and it saddens me that they are being copied.

  19. Jackie March 4, 2018 at 9:49 am #

Super intriguing. I so want to hear first hand how company culture and spirit will be replicated or cultivated in same and different ways.
