This Urban Tellers features Refugio Lopez of Mexico, Philip Lund of Denmark, Lily Ningsih of Indonesia, María Luisa Baragli (Marisa Bevington) of Argentina, Yashar Vasef of Iran, and Zahro Abukar of Somalia.

This program focuses on the real, true stories of immigrants and refugees. We want to humanize and build connection within our urban community.

Every month, a group of six people come together as Urban Tellers® to stand and deliver the real, true stories that they have discovered, crafted, and honed in Portland Story Theater’s Art of Personal Narrative workshops. The results are highly personal and authentic narratives, told eye to eye, face to face, and heart to heart. Come. Listen. Connect to the heart and soul of Portland.

    I have never been to this event but have heard so many great things. Working in healthcare and coming in contact with so many different people I think it would be important for me to understand these stories. After all most of us are immigrants and now more than ever we can all benefit from understanding one another’s journey.

    This hits close to home. My sons father is a south Sudanese refugee. As a student of anthropology and having refugee in laws this show calls to me.
