The Portland Mercury Presents…The I, Anonymous Show! feat. Caitlin Weierhauser, Shelley McLendon, Becky Braunstein, Mohanad Elshieky at The Secret Society

Caitlin Weierhauser

Caitlin Weierhauser spent her childhood in an Ewok tree fort with a rubber band cross-bow, her wolf, and a budding resentment of The Man. She grew up to be the most tantrum-prone Portland comedian and is never happier than when she’s mad.

Caitlin is a member of Lez Stand Up and has performed at Bridgetown Comedy Festival, All Jane Comedy Festival, Bumbershoot, Pickathon and Seattle Sketchfest. She was included in the AfterEllen list of “40 Hot Queer Ladies in Comedy,” and plans to dismantle the patriarchy by Christmas.

Shelley McLendon

Shelley McLendon is the boss at The Siren Theater & Bad Reputation Productions. She also performs sketch with The Aces, improv with The Liberators, and is an original member of Iron Butterfly. Okay, it’s a maybe on that last one. Or maybe not. Either way, she’s freaking hilarious!

Becky Braunstein

Called a “hardcore comedy critics’ favorite” at the Idaho Laugh Fest by the festival’s director Megan Bryant, who “never had that kind of feedback before from so many people about the same comic,” Becky Braunstein is a rising standout performer with fresh energy and wide-eyed enthusiasm that is impossible to ignore. She grew up on a mountain in Alaska where she had no one to talk to, moved to Portland after being diagnosed with metastatic thyroid cancer and coming close to losing her voice forever – but she didn’t lose it, and now she won’t shut up. Becky was an audience favorite at the prestigious 2016 Big Sky Comedy Festival, and has also performed at the All Jane Comedy Festival, the Idaho Laugh Fest, Pickathon, the Siren Nation Festival, NW Women’s Comedy Festival, and the Hudson Valley Comedy Festival. A finalist for ‘Best Comedian’ in the Willamette Week’s 2016 Best of Portland, and selected for Helium Comedy Club’s 2015 ‘Best of Portland’, she performs regularly at Harvey’s Comedy Club and is a host/producer of POWERHOUSE, filmed at Curious Comedy Theater. She studied at the same acting school as Liam Neeson, and has a specific set of skills – which include illustrating #FatAnimals, being able to lip-sync the entirety of ‘Pehla Nasha’ from the 1992 hit Bollywood film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, and demolitions.

Mohanad Elshieky

Mohanad Elshieky has been recently named by the Portland Mercury as one of Portland’s Geniuses of Comedy. Mohanad has been on the award winning show, live wire and has performed in venues such as Revolution Hall and UCB Franklin. Originally from Libya. He brings a unique perspective to the comedy scene, Not afraid to say what on his mind, he discusses politics, stereotypes, and encourages people to pronounce the word hummus correctly. His comedy has been described as genuine, thought provoking and offensively non-offensive. Mohanad can be seen performing all around Portland and the West Coast, and is also the author of the “Road From Libya” Blog.

Hello! The secret society is a great place, I miss it (haven’t been in several years)! Of course, now that I am back in town I’ve really wanted to visit. What’s even more dear to my Portland heart is the The I, Anonymous column. I’ve always been able to depend on it for a wacky laugh every week. Live comedy in Portland is clearly also getting better and better. So what a combo this event shall be! Undoubtedly, this will be a highly amusing evening. Choose me, pleeeeazzzze. :)!

In a world seemingly gone mad, I believe the only things that can save us are Women, and Humor…preferably experienced at the same time. Ergo, for me this is a can’t-miss show which would be made even more perfect by free tickets!

I need a good dose of a good variety of comedians and this list of comedians looks like an interesting funny mix. Have never been to the secret society. It sounds wonderful! My +1 has been trying to get some laughter and comedy in my life. Been a busy couple weeks, cancellations, and a missed birthday.
