Anjali and The Incredible Kid just won BEST DJ in Willamette Week’s Best of Portland Readers’ Poll 2016 and Bumbac Joe won Best Local Dance Producer in the Chicago Reader’s 2016 poll.
Take the sultry vibe of the Latin American Tropics, combine with the
rhythm of India (“Taal”) and stir into Tropitaal, a Desi/Latino
Soundclash where the hottest club sounds from India and Latin America
go head to head in an all-night dance-off of epic proportions.
Resident DJs Anjali & The Incredible Kid combine their deep passions
and deep crates from across the spectrum of Latin, Indian and
Caribbean vibes. (We are not talking Salsa, but Reggaeton, Moombahton,
Digital Cumbia, 3Ball Guarachero, Dembow and more.)
Bumbac Joe, né Leopoldo Bello — Lima-born Venezuelan who Madrid embraced as an adopted son — is a DJ producer whose beats and grooves summon listeners into the fire of Latintronic dance. Taking his sampling, looping and remixing into the studio with countless guest musicians, this beatmaker — now based in Chicago — transforms folkloric rhythms into topical beats and brings marginalized music onto the contemporary dance floor.
“Bumbac Joe is a master sound storyteller. Beyond words, he’s able to paint bright pictures of life in travels and has produced a body of work that amps up jazz with Latintronic samples, sets up Afrobeat to dance with disco and funks up a chant-worthy house mambo bomba. ” —gozamos.com
