Cœur de Pirate is the solo project of award-winning singer-songwriter and pianist Béatrice Martin. She released her self-titled debut album in September 2008, to immediate national and international acclaim, before returning in November 2011 with her sophomore album, Blonde. In 2014, Martin provided the soundtrack to Radio-Canada’s hit medical series, Trauma, as well as the original score to Ubisoft’s video game, Child of Light. Cœur de Pirate has now sold more than one million albums worldwide and counting.

Martin returns in 2015 with her third album, a collection of songs that finds the artist boldly expanding her horizons and modernizing her approach. The intoxicating first single “Carry On”, which was recorded in Stockholm with producer Bjorn Yttling (Peter Bjorn and John, Franz Ferdinand, Lykke Li), signals the end of an era and ushers in another, where Martin reflects more deeply on her life up to that point.

Coeur de Pirate is one of my very favorite artists. I first heard them about four years ago, and their music alone inspired me to study French. I am now almost fluent- and actually understand the lyrics! This is such a special opportunity and I would be absolutely thrilled to win tickets! (:

The video game soundtrack to Child of Light is one of the best in the last decade. The pianist’s talented contribution excels with each stroke of the keys. It would be a delight to witness (and hear) any of her performances live!

I know absolutely nothing about this artist. I used to enter Lego competitions when I was a kid and always built pirate fortresses. I’m probably one of the six people in the world that liked the movie Cuthroat Island. I own a copy of The General History of Pirates and have read it multiple times. My father has a framed movie poster of The Pirates of the Carribean : Curse of the Black Pearl in his office because it was released on his birthday. So once again I’ve never even heard of this artist, but I’m intrigued by any and all things Pirate.

This chick is great. Classic sound with lovely harmonies that blend seamlessly between French transitions and English choruses. Her tattoos are great, as well-adds a bit of flare especially as some of her songs are 2 minute ballads and you would never picture her as the genius behind it. Was able to catch the last half of her set at Sasquatch in 2011 I believe..maybe it was 2012. My friends in Montreal (her hometown) rave about her and always express to make it to one of her shows if possible, which I’m hoping is after this post! Would be a great date :)
