The story behind the Champagne Ball, Portland’s Most Famous New Year’s Eve Party.

On December 31, 1990, Champagne Ball founder Mathew Weber went out to celebrate New Year’s Eve. He hit a local hot spot where he waited in long lines to get a drink. He couldn’t find his friends or a place to sit.

He still remembers standing in line to use the restroom thinking that New Year’s Eve is special night; that people should dress up, that they should be able to get a drink quickly and most importantly that people ought to have fun!

The next year Weber threw a New Year’s Eve party at the East Bank Saloon, 115 people showed up and the Champagne Ball was born. Twenty-five years later the Champagne Ball has outgrown three venues including the Portland Marriott and The Governor Hotel (The Sentinel) and since 2000 the event has made its home at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower.

Throughout the years Weber has done his best to hold true to the core values that have made the party such a success; make it fun, have plenty of bars, hire excellent entertainment and require that people dress for the occasion.

This year is the Silver Edition of the Champagne Ball and the party is packed with all new entertainment, and includes the biggest countdown the Champagne Ball has ever seen.

Join the fun this year and ring in 2016 with over 1,400 of the Northwest’s best dressed and dance yourself silly on our 4 dance floors.

My husband and I have had a rough year and need a night out away from our 4 year old son to help rekindle our relationship. We have spent the last 8 New Year’s Eve celebrations (every New Years since we’ve been together) with his whole family. We need to start this new year off right, and I have always wanted to spend New Year’s Eve in downtown since I turned 21. I am now 28 and think it’s time! I’m currently a full time student so we are currently living off a single family income, winning these tickets would be a dream come true for me! Sorry for the sappy post, but it’s all sad, but true! Please pick me and my husband.

I would love to be picked for a night out with my husband as of June 2015 we have 4 kids so actually getting out is just as difficult as affording to got out .. So we actually wanted to go out for New Year’s Eve we always sit in the house. So winning these tickets would not only be amazing but a blessing

I’ve never won anything, so winning these tickets would really make believe that the new year will be special.

My husband and I have been married for 21 years. We were highschool sweethearts and have 4 beautiful children. 2 of those for children we adopted when we were foster parents . We have gone out one time for New Years Eve in 1997 and it was a blast. This may be our last New Years Eve together. My husband is unable to work and I am the primary support for our family. It would be amazing, and we would be very grateful to be chosen to be the winners of these tickets. I cannot afford something like this but it is so so important that we may get this one last chance to go to an epic new year’s eve party. Thank you.
