Next month, the streets surrounding Rogue Ales’ Green Dragon Bistro will be the backdrop to The Wedge 2015, the Oregon Cheese Guild’s signature event celebrating all things cheese. Hundreds of tantalizing handmade cheeses, specialty foods, and craft beverages will be available for tasting and purchase from more than 40 regional creameries, wineries, and artisan food and beverage producers.

Cheesemakers will be on hand to inform and guide guests through the samplings. Bring a cooler and stock up on these often hard-to-find gems! There is no admission charge to enter The Wedge festival grounds. Sampling cheeses and specialty foods requires purchase of a tasting ticket, available in advance for $15 or at the door for $20. All tickets come with a $5 voucher to purchase your favorite new cheese! Tasting tickets and information at www.thewedgeportland.com

In addition to the wide selection of Rogue Ales and other beers at the Green Dragon, this year’s event will feature offerings from our cider partner Wandering Aengus Ciderworks. And for the first time, Wedge attendees will be able to partake in a Wine Flight – $10 for tastes from all participating wineries and a commemorative glass to take home. Activities include cheese wheel bowling, photos with our mascot, and a visit from the dairy princesses!

Mouthwatering seminars are $10 each, including samples, and will take place in the barrel room throughout the event:

  • A Tasting Tour of Oregon Beer & Cheese with Steve Jones of Cheese Bar and Chizu – From the Rogue to the Willamette and everywhere in between, discover the combinations you and the professional like best together!
  • Unusual Cheese Pairings from New Seasons Market – Coffee? Pineapple? Dark chocolate? From the taste experts at New Seasons, learn how to put together a cheese platter with unexpected accompaniments that will astonish and delight your guests’ taste buds.
  • How to Pair Cider with Cheese with James Kohn from Wandering Aengus Ciderworks – Check out cheese’s hottest new dance partner – cider! Taste your way through this exciting category and all of the intriguing and delicious pairing options it has to offer.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Rogue Ales, Wandering Aengus Ciderworks, Tillamook, Face Rock, New Seasons Market, Formaticum, and Willamette Valley Cheese Company.

Walking in to my grandfather’s kitchen, my grandfather from Wisconsin, he would say in his deep burly voice, “want some cheese?”, as he stood at the cutting board with a small knife and a small, tasty block of cheese. “You don’t have to like it, but just try it.” A motto of food I have since lived by, experiencing the wonder of flavors, especially in cheese and beer. Now, with a partner who is lactose intolerant, a six month old that cannot yet eat and a dog, it is me and my dog, Bro – a cheese connosuier – that enjoy the small sampling of cheese at my own cutting board, liking every bit.

  17. Danielle September 24, 2015 at 8:03 am #

I love cheese so much I can’t adequately express it here

  18. Peter Stewart September 24, 2015 at 9:54 am #

This event is such a delight because of it being outside. There is a communally recognized farmers market feel to it. There are some seriously happy people attending and cheese makers that have travelled from far away to provide affordable cheese. Hope you can help me make the visit a reality!

  19. Iris September 24, 2015 at 2:31 pm #

Oh what a year I’ve had. I had brain surgery that didn’t work and had to stop drinking wine for awhile. I can drink wine again and this would be a huge honor.

    More Cheese Please,

  90. Monica September 25, 2015 at 8:00 am #

It almost seems irrational to make me explain why I would like to win tickets to this… who WOULDN’T want the opportunity to go into a cheese-induced coma? As a teacher transitioning from the carefree months of summer to the first few months of seating charts and the hormonal imbalances that come with a classroom full of 13 year olds, I can’t think of anything I want more than a weekend day full of cheese. And wine. And beer. And cheese.

  91. Tracy S September 25, 2015 at 8:04 am #

What an amazing combination of yumminess! Looks like souch fun!

I’ve yet to find a good cheese that I didn’t like. It is one of my dietary staples. I know that there will be nothing but GREAT cheese here!!
