  6. Spencer Cushing May 19, 2015 at 1:28 pm #

I heart that carpet and would love to have a piece to remember it by. So many trips started from that delightful bit of flooring design.

  7. Carolyn L Scalise May 19, 2015 at 1:29 pm #

It’s surprising, but the carpet is such an iconic part of PDX and I’m nostalgic about all of the trips taken, family and friends picked up or dropped off. So nostalgic, that of course I was one of those who took feet pictures on the carpet the last time I flew last December. Portland is my home town and I would love to have this memorabilia!

  8. Kelly bastos May 19, 2015 at 1:31 pm #

I would like to win this for my boyfriend because he is from Portland and it would mean so much to him to remind him how much better he is doing now. please and thank you in advance this would be wonderful.

  9. brenda May 19, 2015 at 1:32 pm #

I’m a Portland native, and proud of it:) I moved out of state a couple of years ago for work, but visit as often as I can, and that carpet reminds me of home! I may even be guilty of posting one or two #pdxcarpet instagrams. I’d love to own this carpet pack!

  10. Lori May 19, 2015 at 1:34 pm #

    Love it!

  11. Erica Rosser May 19, 2015 at 1:45 pm #

Oh my. I think I will faint if I win this. I love love love the pdx carpet. Have been asking traveling friends to get me a piece since they’ve been ripping it up. Ha. Awesome that you are giving this away. Fingers crossed. :)

I want to carry Portland with me everywhere I go and show off my Portland pride!

  13. Matt W. May 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm #

It’s befitting of Portland’s quirky nature that something as otherwise mundane or banal as airport carpet has become an icon of the city. It would be cool to have that connection to the airport and city in my apartment!

  14. Candice May 19, 2015 at 2:11 pm #

I would love a piece of our custom designed, iconic PDX carpet!! !! XOXO

  15. Donny May 19, 2015 at 2:28 pm #

Being adopted at 6 months I dont remember the carpet when I came here but I definitely remember it when my sister was adopted. That carpet was the first thing I stood on in the States and I have been rooted in Portland ever since.

  16. Morgan Josef May 19, 2015 at 2:33 pm #

I’m Portland born and raised, and whenever I’d come back from a trip, it was the most comforting thing to see the familiar old carpet. It was always so welcoming. I’ll miss seeing it!

  17. Jodi Blackman May 19, 2015 at 2:44 pm #

A small piece of history. I miss that carpet.

  18. Karri May 19, 2015 at 3:37 pm #

I’ve been a fan of this carpet ever since I learned about the history and longevity of this unique carpet in a textiles class. (yeah, before it was cool!) I’d be proud to hang it on my wall, and set my beverages on it’s likeness.

  19. Madeline May 19, 2015 at 5:02 pm #

I miss the carpet already–it was there to greet me when I first moved here

  20. Rich May 19, 2015 at 5:07 pm #

In this carpet we see ourselves, tattered and frayed. Marked with the scars of the decades, trod upon by countless feet. We’ve taken all that life can spill on us, and yet we persevere. And much like the PDX airport carpet, our spirit lingers after our useful days have passed by. This carpet is my brother; it is my sister; it is my mother and my friend. For this reason I would have these carpet scraps.

  21. Amy May 19, 2015 at 6:09 pm #

Moved to PDX just for this airport carpet! Pick meeeee!

  22. Scott May 19, 2015 at 6:36 pm #

I can’t be without PDX carpet!

  23. Wendy May 19, 2015 at 6:45 pm #

One of my first memories of the carpet was in the early 90s picking up my mom after she spend a year TDY in South Korea. That was back in the days when we could go back to the gates to welcome fliers. In 2015, I would love to welcome this piece of PDX history into my home!

  24. Anthony Trotta May 19, 2015 at 7:13 pm #

I grew up walking on these carpets and will never forget them. It would be awesome to physically hold onto a little piece of them myself

  25. Nick May 19, 2015 at 8:49 pm #

I could use even a small portion of carpet that isnt soaked in dachshund wee. The owning Portland history thing is cool too I guess.

  26. Angela May 19, 2015 at 9:15 pm #

I’d be happy to have a piece of the PDX carpet.

  27. Dave May 19, 2015 at 9:27 pm #

Because it will be a great reminder of Portland as I just moved away.

  28. Heather May 19, 2015 at 9:48 pm #

It’s a piece of history of the city I love so much.

  29. Kate May 19, 2015 at 10:07 pm #

I used to work at PDX & I miss seeing The Carpet every day! Also my sister lives in Iceland & I’d love to send her a piece of Portland.

  30. Bonnie Davidoff May 20, 2015 at 5:52 am #

I will wear the shirt everyday! Literally :)
But for reals nothing says pDX like a piece of carpet!

  31. peter mclean May 20, 2015 at 9:19 am #

Carpet, man. Can you spare a square? Whats the deal with airport carpet? I would tape it to my head and wear it like a hat.

  32. Tracy May 20, 2015 at 9:58 am #

good sign that you are home :)

  33. john thomas May 20, 2015 at 10:11 am #

  34. Brooke May 20, 2015 at 10:44 am #

Being a Portland Local and one that went away for college. The carpet has always been my welcome mat. I just bought my first house and I would love to memorialize that feeling everyday when I see it in my house.

  35. Anne May 20, 2015 at 10:51 am #

I collect pins from different places I visit/different events. The carpet pin would be great in my collection.

  36. Rick May 20, 2015 at 11:03 am #

Fun to have and share with visitors that missed out.

  37. Michael Moreno May 20, 2015 at 11:07 am #

I get excited each time I fly and see the historic carpet in a few remaining places. I can now hopefully get excited when I see a small piece hanging on my wall. Thanks PDX Pipeline and the PDX Project!

  38. Dena Whiple May 20, 2015 at 11:23 am #

I’ve walked on that carpet as I began many an adventure, so it’d be cool to have my very own piece of it. I’m sentimental like that. :)

  39. Stacy Marie Jorge May 20, 2015 at 11:25 am #

Before we moved here for my Leukemia in Feb, the carpet in the airportwas the first real view I had of Portland during our 1st visit out here in November. Mostly due to your “overcast” sky at night when I saw the distinct carpet I had read so much about I knew we had finally found our way to our future home. Even if I don’t win, thank you for embracing how much the carpet means to everyone. We all have a story..not just me:)

  40. hagai abady May 20, 2015 at 2:43 pm #

Well i won’t say no to a free pdx T shirt.
    It’s free.
    its from Portland.
I only have 2 shirts in my wardrobe.

  41. Lydia Durnil May 20, 2015 at 6:31 pm #

I love the PDX carpet because it tells me I’m home. Whenever I fly into Portland, I know that it’s waiting for me inside. And I just really like the shirts!

  42. Sherly paul May 20, 2015 at 7:42 pm #

I’m originally from Haiti, this is the only airport that feels like coming home in the USA. Once I see the pattern, I know I’m home and im going to see my boys soon!!

  43. Jana May 20, 2015 at 8:32 pm #

Winning this prize would be a wonderful parting gift. It will remind me of the old Portland. The Portland that wasn’t referred to as Portlandia.

  44. Mindi Whitman May 21, 2015 at 8:49 am #

I want to surprise my husband with this for our 5th wedding anniversary! We love the PDX carpet and can’t wait to showcase it in our home :)

  45. Yume May 21, 2015 at 10:34 am #

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to win a PDX Pipeline contest as badly as I want to win this one.

  59. Chris May 21, 2015 at 3:16 pm #

The new carpet just doesn’t have the same Instagram appeal. I’d love a piece of PDX history

  60. Lucy May 21, 2015 at 3:16 pm #

It’s the last part of Portland I touched before I left for New York after 18 years (my whole life) of living in Oregon. I’d be honored to own a piece of it.

  61. Sam May 21, 2015 at 3:18 pm #

I’ll open up a museum and let people take pictures of their feet on it until the end of time.

Wow how cool is Oregon when we go crazy over carpet. I remember when they put it in and it is still a cool Icon. I hope there next choice will be just as cool.

  65. Marty Anderson May 21, 2015 at 3:36 pm #

Sweet. Does it match the curtains?

  66. Londa May 21, 2015 at 3:55 pm #

It would be PDXcellent to win.

  67. Kristy Alberty May 21, 2015 at 3:57 pm #

You have NO IDEA how close I came to being a felon for this stuff!

Specifically, when I went on a trip with my BF i April and we walked around the airport and noted rolls and rolls of old carpet set aside–the old Portland carpet!

I said, “Hey! It’s the Grand Marshal of the Rose Parade and he’s passed OUT!” And that’s when the idea struck me–how much money is hiding in the rolls of filthy, trod-upon carpet fibers that were lying there before me?

Needless to say, I didn’t take any. Mostly because I would have missed my flight, TSA took my utility knife away (Just kidding–I wasn’t packin’), and I had no convenient work suit to don so I would look like an Average Joe just doin’ his job by shoving this roll of carpet onto the MAX platform.

PLEASE select me for this gift! You would make my year!
Hope to hear from you soon.

    Free and Easy in Portland

  68. Georgia May 21, 2015 at 4:02 pm #

I love the idea of not only getting something that is a Portland original, but also receiving from a company who wants to give back to the community through donating some of its profits. This is truly a Win-Win.

  69. William Stewart May 21, 2015 at 4:05 pm #

    What an awesome idea :-)

  70. Krys May 21, 2015 at 4:13 pm #

I have so many feet photos leaving pdx on adventure and coming home tired and grateful to be home. this would be awesome to win.

  71. Janet May 21, 2015 at 4:25 pm #

The first time I set foot in Portland it was on that carpet. I need some new coasters!

  72. Monica S May 21, 2015 at 4:25 pm #

When a was just a baby portlander we used to go to Mexico for every family members wedding/funeral/quincenera – and for some reason my child brain thought for real that Mexico was in the sky. I thought this til I was embarrassingly old.

Here me out! We went up in the clouds on a plane and I’d fall asleep and wake up and we’d be in Mexico! It was a solid theory, but it freaked me out and I just wanted was to be “back on earth” – which is probably just regular homesickness in retrospect.
But as soon as we got back and i saw that crazy carpet my tiny heart just felt relieved. It was symbolic that i was safe and home and where i belonged. It still means that.

  73. Susan May 21, 2015 at 4:28 pm #

I love ANYTHING and EVERYTHING Portland! I love the PDX carpet so much I knitted some matching socks!

  74. Kate May 21, 2015 at 4:28 pm #

Love the PDX carpet, from my Instagram pics to the first time I set foot in Portland. Pick me! :-)

  75. Kate May 21, 2015 at 4:29 pm #

I would love to represent my town and rock a shirt

  78. Steve Burnett May 21, 2015 at 4:39 pm #

I see all these PDX carpet photos
And I don’t get to travel anywhere. I’m broke! So I need some memorabilia before it’s too late. Basically a shirt or a plane ticket to somewhere before the carpet gets all ripped up ;)

  79. Natalie Lee May 21, 2015 at 4:40 pm #

Love this stuff! The new carpet is textured and makes it hard on the wheelie cases

  80. Aurelia May 21, 2015 at 4:42 pm #

Such a great package – please pick me!!

  81. Wendy May 21, 2015 at 4:51 pm #

I love the carpet! My family has been in oregon for generations and it would become a piece of my history as well.

  82. Katie May 21, 2015 at 5:00 pm #

Seeing it in the airport offered a great feeling that I’ve made it home :)

  83. Sally May 21, 2015 at 5:13 pm #

My girlfriend is moving far away. I want to land on her carpet when I visit.

  84. Amber May 21, 2015 at 5:30 pm #

I would be so pumped to own these pieces of PDX history! I feel like the carpet perfectly captures a time in my life when I was travelling a lot for work and always felt happy to be welcomed home by that quintessential carpet.

  85. C. Patrick May 21, 2015 at 5:30 pm #

Having just recently moved the Pacific Northwest, I haven’t had nearly enough time to get to know the PDX carpet. Having a collection of carpet memorabilia would fix that issue right up.

  86. Mary May 21, 2015 at 5:51 pm #

I want to win this so bad I can taste it. Although tasting PDX carpet would probably be really unpleasant.

  87. Michelle W. May 21, 2015 at 6:41 pm #

Simply because I love this city!

  88. Conrad May 21, 2015 at 6:57 pm #

If you don’t understand why I want these things so badly, I’m never going to be able to explain it to you. Gimme gimme gimme!

  89. Lani May 21, 2015 at 7:47 pm #

    This would be amazing!!!

  90. Amy W May 21, 2015 at 8:00 pm #

To pass on some Portland to my family

  91. Erika May 21, 2015 at 8:11 pm #

I’ve been stomping on the PDX since I was a kid. I need my part of Portland history that I helped wear and tear.

  92. Guy May 21, 2015 at 8:14 pm #

    It’s pretty

  93. Chris May 21, 2015 at 8:19 pm #

  96. Lea Anna May 21, 2015 at 9:02 pm #

Would be a great reminder of where home is.

  97. Scott Hamilton May 21, 2015 at 9:03 pm #

I’ve walked on that many times, and was there when they carried some of it out. May it rest in peace.

  98. ryan May 21, 2015 at 9:33 pm #

Gahh! PDX Carpet is an icon, and while carpet traditionally belongs on the floor, this carpet needs to be hung on the wall or worn.

  99. heather May 21, 2015 at 9:38 pm #

    Because PDX Carpet

  100. Jen S May 21, 2015 at 9:51 pm #

Wow what an interesting idea of PDX carpet gear! Win all the swag.

  101. Katherine N May 21, 2015 at 10:00 pm #

Some of my favorite memories as a child involve the PDX airport. My dad was a pilot for ATA (American Trans Air) until 2007, when they stopped flying. PDX was a hub for ATA. My dad spent so much time in the PDX airport, walking on the PDX carpet; it became so comforting to go to the airport to meet my dad after a week or two away. The PDX carpet was a major part of that.
In February 2014, my dad passed away from a short and aggressive battle with cancer. Having a piece of the carpet would mean so much to me, it would be like having a piece of my dad with me again. I miss him, and I will greatly miss the PDX carpet.

  102. Laura Chrestenson May 21, 2015 at 10:38 pm #

THE PDX CARPET IS SUCH A CLASSIC. I would love to win please :)

  103. Brianna May 21, 2015 at 11:56 pm #

I love this carpet! It was always my go to for a picture of when I am back home in Portland and I am absoultely devastated that it is no longer with us at PDX!!!

  104. Nancy Garrett May 21, 2015 at 11:57 pm #

So many memories of trips away from our beloved Oregon and seeing that carpet upon our return, was always a part of coming home! Being a Portland-born girl, it would be so meaningful to have a part of PDX history! Thank you! =)

  105. max May 22, 2015 at 12:07 am #

I would love to have a 12 x 12 square! The more stains the merrier! it only shows its character through time. all;) PDX carpet I salute you………..

  106. panda May 22, 2015 at 12:55 am #

i work with at risk youth, we need this!!!

  107. Rochelle May 22, 2015 at 1:11 am #

I recently moved back home to Oregon, after being away for 27 years with the military, and missed seeing the carpet at PDX before it was replaced.
The carpet is a symbol of home for me, and it would be wonderful to always have some of it with me.

  108. Laura May 22, 2015 at 2:10 am #

I’ve spent a lot of time walking over that carpet.

I wonder what our children are going to think some day, looking over old photos and seeing tshirts, and coasters, and maybe their tiny little feet on this carpet. It is only something you get if you live in Portland right now.

  109. Kelly May 22, 2015 at 6:11 am #

My wife worked for Horizon for many years at PDX and that carpet became a symbol of so many memories and experiences in her life. I’d love to give her this package full of memories!

  110. Nick Y May 22, 2015 at 7:10 am #

Love how this is exploding. Peedee would be proud for me to win this thing!

  111. Danielle May 22, 2015 at 7:42 am #

It represents the travel, the adventure, the visits home for the holidays, and the summer vacations to new and wonderful places. It has become more than just a carpet, it is a symbol for Portland’s soul.

  112. Aaron Shade May 22, 2015 at 7:48 am #

Because it is pure Portland weirdness at its finest. If I have a piece of the carpet, I can put it anywhere and take foot selfies. It is a little slice of home that I can have with me as I travel the world. The new carpet just cant compare to this fine gem.

  113. steve May 22, 2015 at 7:51 am #

    i want this

  114. michele May 22, 2015 at 8:08 am #

I love the carpet so much I wrote an article about it. Check it out here: And since I don’t have the “required” bridge art in my living room, I’d like a piece of the PDX carpet instead (like I reference at the end of my article.) Cheers to nostalgia!

  115. Wibke May 22, 2015 at 8:24 am #

PDX rules!! That carpet means you’re home.

  116. Sarah May 22, 2015 at 8:29 am #

I’d love to win this because when we moved here 7 years ago we didn’t know if this would be home. When we fly a few times a year to visit relatives and come back to PDX and see this carpet, we are reminded that we really are home!

  117. Kiefer May 22, 2015 at 8:37 am #

I’ve always been fascinated with Portland’s quirky history, and this is a perfect opportunity to own a piece of that history!

  118. Tami C. May 22, 2015 at 9:21 am #

I have many fond memories of getting of the plane and staring at the carpet while walking to my awaiting husband.

  119. Allie May 22, 2015 at 9:49 am #

I need this because what Oregonian HASN’T taken a foot selfie at PDX?! Our state is awesome!

  120. Nikki May 22, 2015 at 10:25 am #

I want it because it’s pure Portland. You aren’t a true Oregonian if you don’t love this carpet. I am sad it’s leaving, I hate the new carpet, to have a piece of carpet would be amazing.

I always knew I was home when I saw this carpet after getting off the plane, it’s home, it’s Portland.

My kids and I have so many wonderful memories flying out of PDX on our family trips each year and we think it’s great how the carpet has taken on such a fun trend and we’ve added many foot selfies to our albums. My son is now going off to college and my daughter right behind him, they both love the PDX carpet and it would be a great memory for each of us to have something symbolic to remind us of the great memories.

  125. Jasmine Gillett May 22, 2015 at 7:53 pm #

Arriving in portland, six years ago, shaking and nervous to begin a new life, the PDX carpet was the first thing I saw. Since then, every time I see it when i travel its a reminder of how far I’ve come as person and how much portland means to me, The PDX carpet represents change and the strength to do so, which is why I would love to have a piece of it.

I would love to own a piece of the PDX carpet because I was born and raised in Oregon, and I have always loved going to the airport. I even offer to pick friends up all the time, because going to the airport almost always means I get to fly somewhere, hopefully on an adventure, loved ones are coming home, or I’m getting a visitor!

  135. Elise May 23, 2015 at 9:43 pm #

I would live this to give as a gift to my boyfriend.

  138. Sharon May 24, 2015 at 9:27 am #

I have flow PDX since I was 10, and that was 37 years ago. That carpet truly is a piece of history. My son is a high functioning autistic, and early on – before 9/11, he was really into airplanes. We would come to the airport just so he could look around, and each time we would fly from Texas to Portland and back, we would spend time in the airport. He knew that carpet very, very well and would actually trace the patters as we sat waiting for flights. He is now 21, and would love to have a square. This really would be something for him, as well as for me.

    PDX!! Love my city!!

  141. Destiny May 24, 2015 at 11:51 am #

I took my first flight ever at age 36 from the PDX Airport (I was terrified) and I just got a job promotion 6 months after coming from volunteering during unemployent for a year, being hired part-time and then becoming full time. My new position includes an office in need of decor… A piece of PDX Airport would definitely add some of my personality to it and serve as a reminder of getting over fear of doing something new.

Millions of footprints, lives, happiness, late nights, all seasons, tears of joy, and my own memories implanted in fibers. If a piece of carpet could talk. Oh, if it could talk. Love it.

I would love to Win to send to my son in Boston Massachusetts. He has been there for his job for the past 3 1/2 years and he is homesick. This would brighten his day having a piece of Portland.

  154. Jennifer May 25, 2015 at 11:03 pm #

Whenever I’ve stepped onto the PDX carpet from a returning flight I would find comfort from it knowing that I was finally home. Having a piece of it would be such a historical treasure. And quite possibly a great conversation starter… Ha :)

  155. Stacy Marie Jorge May 26, 2015 at 6:01 am #

This was the first true memory we had of our first visit here at Thanksgiving. It was so overcast that day we didn’t really see the city. Deplaning and seeing that carpet made it all the more real that we were finally here. So would love to have that memory forever of course. But who wouldn’t?

  156. Jenny May 30, 2015 at 9:55 am #

A great way to represent Portland, especially if I end up in another city. Portland pride!
