In the past two years, Allen Stone has gone from being a soul singer from Chewelah, WA to selling out venues where the audience is bigger than his hometown’s entire population – and it blows his mind. “Basically my job is to throw a party for people every night when we’re on tour,” he says with a sense of wonder.
Stone’s world has expanded dramatically since he released his self-titled album on his own stickystones label in late 2011. It shot into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and entered the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/Soul charts and soon the unsigned artist was appearing on shows like “Conan,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “Live from Daryl’s House.” USA Today hailed him as a “pitch-perfect powerhouse” and The New York Times’ Jon Pareles likened his socially conscious music to that of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers. Stone was voted one of mtvU’s “Freshman 5″ in late 2012 and tapped as VH1’s first “You Oughta Know” artist of 2013. His new album, which Stone is co-producing with Swedish soul singer/multi-instrumentalist Magnus Tingsek, will be released later this year by Capitol Records.
