From cookin’ with Blues legend John Lee Hooker, organ summits with B-3 master Dr. Lonnie Smith, television and radio appearances, Wil Blades is gaining critical acclaim and international recognition. Blades, a native Chicagoan, has become the San Francisco Bay Area’s first call organist and is rapidly gaining momentum internationally.

He has been named “Rising Star” for organ in the Downbeat critics poll every year since 2006. Wil has been wowing audiences with groups such as O.G.D., Amendola Vs. Blades, Stanton Moore Trio, Steppin and Billy Martin/Wil Blades Duo.

In addition to performing with legendary artists such as John Lee Hooker and Dr. Lonnie Smith, Wil has performed and recorded with Melvin Sparks, Idris Muhammad, Joe Louis Walker, Don Braden, Donald Harrison, Nicholas Payton, Karl Denson, Will Bernard, Scott Amendola, Charlie Hunter, Stanton Moore, Billy Martin, Anders Osborne, Jason Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Betty Joplin, Eddie Marshall, Herbie Lewis, and many others. Tonight’s trio includes New Orleans drummer, Simon Lott, and Tortoise’s Jeff Parker on guitar!

I love live rock and punk music! Haven’t heard live organist or funk music, but I’m always trying to experience new things, and free tickets would definitely help with that! :-)

I absolutely love this guy! you will wonder where the bassist and the other musicians are when you hear the rich and complex sound as his socked feet and nimble fingers make their way across the keyboard and pedalboard. This guy is the real deal!!!! Saw him in the bay area once and after a particularly firey number a bunch of old jazz musicians in the audience gave a standing applause. Jazz musicians are NOT easy to impress. If you haven’t caught him in concert before, now is the chance.

Oh boy oh boy, I hope you haven’t picked somebody yet for this yet! I’m totally fascinated by organ music, used to listen to the Doors over & over for the organ alone … maybe it’s from my many years of going to Gospel church? Anyway I would sure love to see & hear this. Thank you! Enjoy the beautiful sun :D
