This coming January, thousands of Northwest runners and walkers will suit up in ridiculous costumes and gather together for a 5k race on one of the most miserable weather days of the year. Cold temperatures, rain, and gray skies will likely greet them.

And they’ll love every minute of it.

The Worst Day of the Year Run, a 5k event that benefits the Portland Police Bureau’s nonprofit Sunshine Division, returns for it’s second appearance at the scenic McMenamins Edgefield estate in Troutdale, just 12 minutes from downtown Portland. Scheduled for a 10am start on Saturday, January 31st, the event offers a long list of benefits: An accurate & scenic course, a custom beanie or ear warmer from Columbia Sportswear, ample free parking, warm food after the run, optional chip timing, and a free beer for anyone in costume. VIP entries are also available, which include a long list of special benefits such as a complimentary long-sleeve technical shirt.

Even if the weather turns truly nasty, the Worst Day of the Year Run has you covered…literally…with an indoor venue tapped for the post-event party.
