Looking for a way to turn Portland into a giant game board? Make it your New Year’s Resolution to discover new things about Portland with a city-wide scavenger hunt!

Urban Adventure Quest has created an interactive scavenger hunt that combines the fun of the Amazing Race with a three-hour sightseeing tour of Portland. Guided from any smart phone, groups make their way among well-known and overlooked gems of the city, solving clues and completing challenges while learning local history.

The adventure begins in the heart of downtown at Pioneer Courthouse Square and takes you on a journey to see the best sights of the city. From the Arts district to Powell’s bookstore and Voodoo Doughnuts … as well as amazing stops in between, you will enjoy all that Portland has to offer. The tour requires approximately 2.4 miles of walking and you will also experience the city’s famous street cars.

Using a smart phone as “the guide” allows participants to start when they want and determine their own pace of play. Stop to enjoy lunch or take in the sights… why not, it’s your schedule? Offered at a fixed price for a group vs. per person pricing, this city tour/game offers a great value to those on a budget.

My parents are coming into town but I only have one day to try to explain why Portland is so awesome. What an incredible way to show them the sights! And play a game!? I’d get great daughter points for sure:)

For when the paths of two individuals cross it is chance encounter, but when the paths of two souls of depth, compassion, and love meet it is a tryst. My tryst has lasted nine wonderful years and I would love to celebrate the beginning of this new year by experiencing something new with her. So what better way then to take an urban quest.

  5. Danielle January 7, 2015 at 3:47 pm #

My boyfriend and I have really been wanting to try one of these scavenger hunts.

  6. sean January 7, 2015 at 6:43 pm #

Sounds like a fun, unique experience. Crazy that you can find such a thing in Portland. I’ve always wanted to do the Amazing Race. That probably won’t happen but I’d be stoked if this hunt did.

My roommate would just die to do this!

  8. Lilly January 8, 2015 at 7:58 am #

I have been hosting exchange students from various nations, nearly 40 people in the last 5 years. I’m always struggling with ideas to really introduce the city to them. A scavenger hunt sounds like a fun and more comprehensive avenue to break the ice and introduce these visitors to Portland.

a scavenger hunt for the New Year sounds like a wonderful plan for me and my boyfriend of 7 years today. We have never done anything like that and we have gone to a lot of different interesting things like studying meditation at an ashram and learning the art of Chi Gong so doing the scavenger hunt would be a really exciting thing for us and we both don’t have that kind of money to spend but would love it.

  29. Michelle Scaz January 12, 2015 at 3:23 am #

Finally a scavenger hunt from my youth. My friends & I are PDX transplants. We are competitive, confident we know all the “gems” of Portland in our combined 15 years as Portlandians, and ready to be proven wrong during the quest. What a fun and wonderful way to start the 2015 year, spend time gaming, and enjoying the AMAZING city we choose to call home!

I’ve always wanted to get to know PDX much better and I cannot think of a more enjoyable way to do so. I have been trying to find reasonably priced local activities and I am beyond thrilled at this prospect.

These will be throughout the year and part of that is to get to know the city better and do some things we don’t normally do. I feel this would be a lot of fun.

  79. Jessie January 9, 2016 at 10:06 pm #

My boyfriend is from Florida and this would be an exciting way to show him around town. “Welcome to Portland!”
