Live Wire! Season Opener
February 14, 2015
Doors: 6:30 pm / Show: 7:30 pm | $20 General, VIP $35
1300 SE Stark Street #110, Portland, Oregon 97214
A sleeping giant is about to awaken in the heart of Southeast Portland’s Buckman neighborhood. George Washington High School, the sprawling brick structure at the intersection of Stark and SE 14th (closed to students since 1981) has been completely rebuilt and repurposed. At the heart of its redevelopment is REVOLUTION HALL, a brand new state-of-the-art events room housed in the building’s auditorium, opening in February 2015.
Live Wire is radio variety for the attention span challenged. It’s music from up-and-coming bands, original comedy, performance and scintillating interviews with writers, filmmakers, comedians and people who think cool thoughts. Hosted by Luke Burbank (Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, Too Beautiful to Live), the show is taped in front of a live audience in Portland, Oregon and is aired on public radio stations around the country.
More about Revolution Hall
Two full service bars will live within Revolution Hall – Martha’s (upstairs) and Great Meadows (named after the site of Washington’s historic military surrender), with additional satellite bars within the venue. Great Meadows will offer a full-service bar, café, market and outdoor patio that sits adjacent to the school’s former soccer field, which will remain in place as a green area and dog park. Great Meadows will be open to the public during morning and daytime hours.
Atop Revolution Hall is a roof deck with sweeping views, available for events and other uses.
Rebuilt from the ground up, but retaining all of the historic charm of the original 1922 theater, as well as many touches from its most recent high school iteration (including some lockers and chalk boards in artist areas) REVOLUTION HALL will feature the following:
