On December 31, 1990, Champagne Ball founder Mathew Weber went out to celebrate New Year’s Eve. He hit a local hot spot where he waited in long lines to get a drink. He couldn’t find his friends or a place to sit.

He still remembers his sense of disappoint that night and his thought that New Year’s Eve should be a special night. People should dress up, spend time with their friends and not stand in lines all night. And, most important, people ought to have fun!

The next year Weber threw a New Year’s Eve party at the East Bank Saloon, 115 people showed up and the Champagne Ball was born. Twenty-four years later the Champagne Ball has outgrown three venues including the Portland Marriott and The Governor Hotel (The Sentinel) and since 2000 the event has made its home at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower.

Throughout the years Weber has done his best to hold true to the core values that have made the party such a success; make it fun, have plenty of bars so people don’t have to stand in long lines, hire excellent entertainment and ask that people dress for the occasion.

The 2014 Champagne Ball is expecting over 1,300 guests this year and it will include with all those things that make the event such a success: great entertainment, plenty of space to dance, 17 bars, enough food to fill you up (but not enough to slow you down) photo booths and photographers to catch you dressed in your best and a midnight count-down not to be missed.

If you think New Year’s Eve should be a special night, and if you like dancing and having fun, plan to join us at the Champagne Ball. Everyone involved in the party will work very hard to ensure that your New Year’s Eve is not a disappointment.

Please remember to dress for this special occasion in cocktail attire or black tie. Thank you for your continued support.

As a thank you to the community a portion of this year’s proceeds will benefit the Oregon Active Foundation.

I would love a chance to celebrate New Years with a fresh start. It’s a new year as a single mother and this sounds like a great opportunity to take a date out and have some fun.

  15. Madison December 3, 2014 at 2:33 pm #

I would love to go because I’ve never really done anything fun for New Years before. My boyfriend and I usually just volunteer to work because we have no fun plans. A night like this sounds like a total blast that would make some killer memories!!

  16. Madison December 3, 2014 at 2:37 pm #

I would love to go because I’ve never done anything fun for New Year’s Eve before. I usually end up working so people with fun plans can have the night off. A night like this would make some amazing memories.

  17. christina December 3, 2014 at 3:16 pm #

New years eve has always been a downer for me; it’s my birthday and everyone forgets about it! This year I’d like my 23rd to make up for all other past birthdays. I would never complain again if I could have just ONE epic birthday at the champagne ball!

  18. Jenn "Beaver" Richardson December 3, 2014 at 3:47 pm #

The Champagne Ball seems like the perfect place to take my new roommate for New Year’s Eve; he cleans up pretty well. Must keep telling myself: I need a roommate more than a boyfriend. Haha!!! This is definitely on the list of NYE possibilities.

  19. Erik Arneson December 3, 2014 at 4:15 pm #

I love champagne and I love wearing black tie.

  20. Breanna December 3, 2014 at 4:19 pm #

  23. Archell B December 3, 2014 at 5:20 pm #

i have met the love of my life and would love love love to surprise him by taking him to this amazing event. He has been the most patient and kindest MAN I have ever met. Being that I’m a single mom and on a very limited budget I can’t afford to buy these tickets myself to surprise him. He’s been also supportive and has helped to make sure my two kids and I have an amazing christmas and lent us his car when mine died (timing belt broke on a non-interference engine; its toast and expensive to fix) as we live in an area that has very limited transit (Albany). It would be amazing to be able to show him how much he’s apprieciated by ringing in the New Year at this amazing event.

  24. Nestor Flores December 3, 2014 at 6:06 pm #

I need these tickets cause I am a crazy party animal and I need to get my party on. I havent partied since 1999 and its time to get my boogie on. The major plus is those sexy gogo dancers especially that Melanie gogo she gets the party started. Pick me!

This year I turned 50. I didn’t really have a party, just went to brunch wth my family since it was also Easter. I would love to end this year with a BANG! and some champagne, which I love. My husband of 29 years and I love to dress up when we go on a cruise, so we would really enjoy that, too. He loves rock music, I love all kinds. We love to dance, but rarely get a chance to. This would be a perfect night for us!

  36. Alexi December 4, 2014 at 1:15 pm #

  47. seth francis December 4, 2014 at 4:27 pm #

I have dreamed of a party with this glamor and glitz, the shimmering lights and music and ritz,
where the ordinary become special, and the old become young, where strangers become friends while songs are sung,
This year I will celebrate with the love of my life, and I will propose marriage and make her my wife,
and I can do it at the Hilton, singing old lang syne, all because of PDX Pipeline!
    Thanks :)

  48. Claire December 4, 2014 at 4:29 pm #

  56. Kelsey December 4, 2014 at 6:16 pm #

My family and I moved to Vancouver almost two years ago. My husband and I work very hard to take care of our kiddos. Which means… We don’t get out much. It would be great for my honey and me to have an amazing night together… Alone… No kids :)

  57. Erin December 4, 2014 at 6:20 pm #

This has been a hard year. I have been unemployed and my husband wants to become a U.S. Citizen. We have been struggling financially and this would be a great way to celebrate. There is a saying from his country that how you celebrate the new year is how the whole year will be. It is a proverb of good fortune. I hope our 2015 has excellent fortune and this would start the New Year off right.

  58. Krissy December 4, 2014 at 7:13 pm #

My hubby isn’t exactly a party person. Let’s show him how it’s done! :)

  62. Ivanna Barnes December 4, 2014 at 9:45 pm #

I’ve never attended a large scale, fancy New Year’s Eve party. Growing up it was always church sponsored events and the past few years I’ve gone to casual parties hosted by friends. The reason I would like to attend the champagne ball has nothing to do with me though, my mother has worked hard for years to put her self through graduate school, work, help me pay for college, and now works at the state hospital living her dream but for all that she has sacrificed a lot and I would love to be able to take her with me to a grand New Year’s Eve party this year, something she hasn’t done since she was a young woman.

  63. Amy December 4, 2014 at 9:47 pm #

    1) I love the band

    2) 2015 is going to be my year!

  64. Julie Schilling December 4, 2014 at 9:55 pm #

I have never been…my husband is a full time student and we never get to do any real dates anymore. This would get our year off to a better start!

  65. Deng December 4, 2014 at 10:10 pm #

Sounds like a great party. Would love to go to a party where people dress up. I have a suit and no where to wear it. ;-)

  66. Jessica December 4, 2014 at 10:15 pm #

This would be a perfect date for me and the husband.

  67. Emily Walker December 4, 2014 at 10:16 pm #

I’m currently grading papers and they are crushing my soul. Have you ever seen a paper that cites a Buzzfeed list, because I have? I’ve seen four this week.

Please give me a reason to hope again.

  68. Angie December 4, 2014 at 10:53 pm #

I don’t usually do anything NYE, but this sounds fun!

  76. Jennifer December 5, 2014 at 3:59 am #

This would literally be the only way I’d get my boyfriend to dress for a ‘black tie’ event….and he would forced to comply for the tickets and I get to have my heart skip a beat at how handsome he looks in it…. Two tickets pretty please! :)

  77. Ron December 5, 2014 at 7:56 am #

Hello. I don’t mean to sound like I’m whining. I have had a rough year, with the loss of a close family member to cancer. I know, no one gets out alive. I imagine during that time I wasn’t easy to be around at times, especially considering I was back and forth from Washington a lot. I have this wonderful woman in my life who stuck by my side the whole time, who moved up to help me and support me in one of the most selfless acts I’ve witnessed. Now the company I work for is selling. I appreciate the ups and downs in life, but it sure would be an up if I could surprise her with tickets to an amazing event!! I’m not sure when I’d be able to afford to take her on my own, and what a great way to ring in the new year!! Thank you for your time. Sincerely -Ron

  78. Scott December 5, 2014 at 10:16 am #

I found the love of my life in Portland. We stayed in contact over the years while I lived in Las Vegas, now we both live in bridge town! Our relationship has been five years in the making and we are finally starting our lives together. This would be the perfect culmination of our journey with one another. What could be more romantic than ringing in the new year with your soulmate?! Plus we both love music, dj’s, pizza and photo booths.

Lastly, our photo booth sessions tend to be pretty epic.

I would love to attend because my husband and I have never had an awesome night out like this and we have five children so it would be amazing to get all dressed up and doing something amazing to bring in the new year doing something fun just the two of us

Not to mention I have not had the chance to celebrate anything in a really long time due to a crazy school schedule. Fingers crossed! :)

    Hello,
I have been waiting for a marvelous outing to attend for New Years for a while now, because, I have a beautiful gold gown that I can’t just wear to any party. I would be so happy to win, thank you for the opportunity!

  127. Erin December 9, 2014 at 8:57 pm #

I have always wanted to attend a fabulous party on NYE but haven’t ever had the opportunity, so this would be the perfect event to go to. Plus, the last few NY haven’t been the best so to be able to get dolled up, dance my butt off, and have a fabulous time is just the thing I need! Also, since almost all places are here in Portland are casual (and no one gets dressed up for much of anything here) my little black dress is gathering dust and needs to get out of the house! :-)

  128. Kara December 9, 2014 at 10:19 pm #

What an amazing surprise this would be for my boyfriend and I! New Years holds a special place in our hearts and it would be so cool to experience something like this with him! Plus we never get to dress up and how fun would that be? :)

  129. Tara December 10, 2014 at 7:46 am #

  132. Denis Mortenson December 10, 2014 at 2:11 pm #

I have had an affinity for dancing since seeing my parents dance sometime long ago when man was first crawling out of his icy caves into the glorious Great Thaw. Alas, after my car accident of 2013 I haven’t danced with any fetching lass. This is my Holy Grail. I have an entire closet full of glass slippers. They keep leaving one shoe on my dates and I never find them again. So, if at all possible, I am either looking for a one footed maiden, or a maiden with two sizes of feet.

Obviously, I am not qualified (not being pediatrist) for this task. Only you, yes, you – can help a dance challenged man such as myself. My goal is to dance on all 17 dance floors in one night. To do this I will need tickets. Only you, the God of the Dance, help me in my mission.

There is a woman I know who longs to feel my manly hand in hers, twirling her incessantly until she collapses into my arms. Would you deny me this fantasy? Would you make me twirl myself on my bad linoleum, or my faux bamboo floors when the clock strikes 12:01 ????

Choose me, and $2 Billion dollars of gold bars will arrive on your doorstep on New Year’s Day.

    Thank you.

Our NYE plans fell through, and my wife and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage this year. We never have been to a prom or formal dance together, and have always dreamed of attending an event such as this, but can never afford it. I would love to be able to surprise my gorgeous wife with our first “formal” event!!

  135. Ryan December 10, 2014 at 6:37 pm #

Never a prom, elegance, or a chance to wear a sparkly dress on NYE amidst a crowd. Entrance to new memories a midnight kiss a goddess ready to own the town with her true love.

My girlfriend is a single mom of two great kids who has struggled financially over the past five years since her divorce. She was somehow able to scrimp and save to buy a place that has separate rooms for her kids. After struggling to make ends meet, she has been offered a promotion that starts on January 1. With the raise she will be able to catch back up financially. She has dealt with this professional and personal stress without her kids ever seeing it on her face. She deserves to celebrate the new year at a celebration as incredible as her.

Her schedule as a nurse is making her miss Christmas with her family, and it will be my first time visiting Portland and I want us have a night we will never forget! I fear if I don’t win these tickets we will have a terrible new years eve together, and she will most likely break up with me shortly thereafter. Spare our love – Or give them to Scott Besemann, because single moms deserve to party too!

Thanks, and cheers to you all!

Two, I would be celebrating with 4 out of town friends — one of which will be celebrating an important birthday, her LAST year in her 20s! Plus, I would love to show them how great Portland can be.

And three, I will be sure to be dancing all night long.

  213. Sharon Doty December 19, 2014 at 10:12 am #

I’d love to win tickets to the Chanpagne Ball because I have Champagne taste…. Not a beer budget. More like a moderate bottle of wine budget…. The opportunity to dress to the nines and take my sweetie out for a night of wining and dining would be wonderful!

  214. Pam December 19, 2014 at 1:12 pm #

My hubby and I love to have FUN!! good luck everyone

  215. Tonya December 19, 2014 at 2:48 pm #

  216. Kathleen December 19, 2014 at 3:17 pm #

NYE should be celebrated ‘old school’! Dressing to the nines with a handsome man escorting me to a champagne ball…….PERFECTION!!!

  217. Greg December 19, 2014 at 4:20 pm #

this is the best New Years party! The dance floors are a blast and the food is actually really good. Staying in the hotel means you don’t have to drive. Wonderful party I’ve been to once before and would love to go to again!

  218. Catarina Martinez December 20, 2014 at 10:23 am #

My birthday is on December 31st! Turning 28! My boyfriend and I relocated from Southern California and we want to celebrate my birthday with style… Let’s get fancy~~!

  226. shaylene Stewart December 21, 2014 at 8:38 am #

I wonder if anyone actually reads all these amazing comments or just randomly picks. New Years has always been special to me and spending it in a room full of wonderfully dressed people seems like a dream come true. We all love to be stress free especially on the holidays. I would love to attend this extravagant party and celebrate the New Year.

  227. Heidi December 21, 2014 at 9:23 am #

This would be the perfect event to attend on New Years Eve!

  232. Andrea December 21, 2014 at 8:43 pm #

Would love to get all fancy with my husband and kiss 2014 goodbye! I had plenty to celebrate this year with earning my bachelor’s degree and visiting beautiful Alaska; however, upon returning from Alaska I went into the hospital for three weeks. Awake and lucky to be alive, all I wanted was to go home and see my little dog, Sushi (next to my husband, truly my best friend). The day before my release from the hospital my husband walked into the room and informed me that Sushi had died. (That’s just my luck) Please pick me!

  233. Jenn December 22, 2014 at 3:55 am #

This sounds like it would be a blast and I’m always fretting over what to do on NYE. I would love a pair of tickets! :)

  234. Jen December 22, 2014 at 3:57 am #

My girlfriend will be visiting me and I would love to show her a great time for NYE…..tickets to this would be awesome…..

  235. Jennifer December 22, 2014 at 3:59 am #

I want to be part of the most famous NYE party….A native and I’ve not been. I am always up for trying something new!!!

  236. Jenny December 22, 2014 at 4:01 am #

This sounds like such a fun night! I’d book a room for the night there too. A ‘staycation’! :)

  237. Katerina December 22, 2014 at 8:35 am #

I would LOVE to go to the New Year’s Eve Ball… I have a friend that loves to do fancy dress-up brunches, so I think it would be the perfect thing to bring him to.

  238. Fred Berschauer December 22, 2014 at 9:44 am #

I proposed to my fiancé on July 6th while staying at the Hilton executive towers. Coming back for the NYE party would bring tears to her eyes. She’s very nostalgic when it comes to memories and returning to where things happened. For her it would be the perfect ending to a very difficult year with remarkable bright moments in it.

  239. Marc December 22, 2014 at 10:07 am #

My best friend surprised me with a evening at the way luxurious Fairmont Hotel in Banff BC. I could never afford to do that for him and then he surprised me again with a phone call that he wanted to spend New Years in Portland so…I’d love to have to call and tell him to bring a tie!

  240. Travis December 22, 2014 at 10:23 am #

I was stuck in Boston last year so I didn’t get to spend it with my fiance, also we’ve never been able to afford this and it would make a very memorable night for me and my fiance.

  241. Doris December 22, 2014 at 12:17 pm #

This year has been a little rough and I would the opportunity to celebrate the New Year in a big way!

  242. Susan Kinney December 22, 2014 at 12:22 pm #

My husband and I have had a rough year. It would be wonderful if we could put this year behind us and start anew beginning with this wonderful event. We’ve never been but we LOVE the Portland Hilton!

  243. kelci December 22, 2014 at 1:18 pm #

I just moved to pdx in October, would love to go to an event like this!!!

  244. JK Lee December 22, 2014 at 3:29 pm #

Thank you Mathew Weber! My husband and I have felt the same way on many a New Year celebration; disappointment, and have since spent several at home. 2015 is a new year that holds a lot of promise for us, and we are looking forward to it with a little trepidation and mostly anticipation!
This would be a great way to remember this moment in our lives, and I feel confident that Mathew Weber’s party will deliver.

  245. Nchekube Onyima December 22, 2014 at 9:53 pm #

I would love to attend this event because I am back from my first year of law school and havent visited home (Portland) in months. This would be the perfect opportunity for my girls and I to re-connect and dance the night away before I head back to Louisiana for more law school..

    Thanks!

  246. Nchekube Onyima December 22, 2014 at 10:02 pm #

I would love to attend this event with my sisters! This is the first time the four of us have been together in forever. I’m in Louisiana in law school, the oldest is in Boston getting her masters, my other sister just received her masters in public health in Los Angeles and my baby sister is a junior in Sacramento. We’re all over the country and get to be together for new years so this event would be perfect!

    -Thanks!

  247. Adrianne December 22, 2014 at 10:45 pm #

Portland on New Year’s Eve sounds like a blast and in the past, I haven’t really done much for it. I want this year to be different, and I want to bring it in with the other lovely people in the heart of my lovely city. The Champagne Ball seems like it tops everything else I’ve heard and read about going on around town, not to mention winning tickets courtesy of PDX Pipeline would be an absolute dream since I constantly rely and refer to this website for all of my Portland event updates. (TRUTH!)
I want my year of 2015 to be awesome. I want to start my year of 2015 at this awesome event.

I moved to portland a few months ago from Alaska and was told about this event by one of my friends. It sounds like the ultimate new years experience ! It would be awesome to be able to go with my friend and enjoy the night with them

  250. Shawn Ramage December 23, 2014 at 8:14 am #

I would like to win the tickets because I have spent the last 5 NYE alone and I am rather tired of it. I am a single, older Mom and would love to usher in 2015 differently this year. 2014 was a year of much strife and struggle and I look forward to all the abundance 2015 will bring. I would also like to meet some people, have fun for a change, dance my booty off and smile from ear to ear. Who knows – I might even meet the love of my life. Now, that would be life changing!!

  251. Sam December 23, 2014 at 10:21 am #

sounds like a classy night with friends.

  252. Caley M December 23, 2014 at 10:59 am #

I have yet to make it to a NYE party that has really been the time of my life. I think this party would give me just the right balance of class and crazy to make my life one to remember!!

  253. Erika December 23, 2014 at 2:23 pm #

I’ve put in for the Governor’s Ball and for The Red Star Tavern – Might as well put in for this one too ;) Bottom line: We finally have the time off of work, and we already have the clothes, the shoes, and the accessories for a classy night out; yet, because we are budgeting for a wedding this summer, it’d be really nice to score some complimentary tickets to a most memorable New Year’s party.

  254. Robb C December 23, 2014 at 2:52 pm #

The last 3 years of NYE parties have been a bust for me. Not knowing where to go for a great time, I’ve found myself at the mercy of “bro bars” or sold out venues that have been a terrible way to begin the new year. I want to look good. Real Good. I want my lady to feel like a real man is taking her out to see the town. I got the outfit, now I need the tickets. You won’t be disappointed with your decision, and a child will be named in your honor. We shall call him “Pipe” for short.

  255. Iris Powell December 23, 2014 at 3:22 pm #

    A deserving PSU student here!

  256. Jonah M December 23, 2014 at 4:27 pm #

    I want to go!

  260. Kimberly December 23, 2014 at 7:04 pm #

I think these two years( last and coming) deserve to be feted in absolute style and frivolity. I have said YES to the man of my dreams, and I will soon be moving to this wonderful city from Ontario, Canada. Saying Good bye to so many beautiful people and things, saying Hello to a world I had never imagined existed. This would be a great place and time to make some new friends, and to see how Portlanders usher out the old and ring in the new. Cheers!

  261. Susie December 24, 2014 at 12:04 am #

I’ve never been to a formal NYE party ever! I’d love to get a chance to go. Thanks!

She and I really enjoy acoustic, blues, and live music! This would be a treat for the both of us as reunited for the coming of the new year! Thank you for your consideration.

*sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne*

Oh how I’d love to attend
    The Portland Champagne Ball
I know I’d have the bestest time
Hanging out with all of ya’ll.

We’d party on all four dance floors
And eat all the hors d’oeuvres
Then take some pics in photo booths
And ring 2015 in like it deserves!

  302. Emily December 26, 2014 at 11:46 am #

My husband and I have been married for ten years and have yet to go out on NYE. Send us dancing!

  303. Nikki Edwards December 26, 2014 at 11:56 am #

I think that going to this amazing celebration would be the perfect way to bring in the 2015 New Year! My boyfriend and I own a small construction company in Eugene and work our butts off all year long. Our only time off is in Dec. We work 6 days a week and take care of our 5 girls. We don’t have our kids for New Year’s this year (they’re with their other parents, we’re both divorced), so it’s the perfect opportunity for us to get out and let loose! We give so much all year long, it would be fantastic to finally be able to get out and have the time of our lives at this notoriously fabulous party!!
Please, give us that amazing gift! Thank you PDX Pipeline!

  304. hillary December 26, 2014 at 12:11 pm #

I’d love to go! Way out of any dream budget for me. I’d make the most of it! Thanks for considering!

  305. Nikki Edwards December 26, 2014 at 12:15 pm #

I’m not sure my post submitted, because I don’t see it up here, so I’m trying again.

Our only time off is in Dec and this year we don’t have our kids for NYE (we’re both divorced, and our girls are with their other parents). It would be SUBLIME to win these tickets. My boyfriend LIVES for the 80s and would be so thrilled with me if I brought him to this. It would make up for me having to leave to go back to school for five months ten times over. Let’s own this new year!

  309. Erica December 26, 2014 at 1:33 pm #

Winning tickets would be amazing! My roommate and I just moved here and don’t know anyone. We hear this is the biggest and best party to go to! We are both single females looking to have some fun and dress to impress!!

  310. Corrine December 26, 2014 at 1:50 pm #

I’ve never won anything before but thought I’d try anyway. I have never been out on NYE before and I’m looking to hit it out of the park this year! Unfortuently I have a small budget so winning tickets to this event would make my year. It would be a girls night out for my friend and I. We already have dresses and nowhere to go. Please pick me!! I’d love to surprise my friend with these tickets. Thanks :)

  311. Kelly December 26, 2014 at 2:36 pm #

We would totally rock this party. Please pick me!!!!!!

  312. Kelli Johnson December 26, 2014 at 2:42 pm #

Going to this party would be the icing on an already wonderful first visit to Portland, and winning tickets would impress the bejeezus out of my boyfriend. It would make up for having to be long distance come next week. I am so ready to just dance the night away!

  313. Electra Langley December 26, 2014 at 4:07 pm #

I would’ve to win because I recently moved back to Portland after living in Nashville and LA and I am literally the only single person in my family/friends circle, so everyone is paired up ms I would love something fun and different and elegant tiring in the new year!

I cannot think of a better way to start out the New Year, than celebrating at the best party!

1-I’m sure my husband did not plan anything.
    2-he loves to dress up.
3-This is the only event that deserves the dress I want to wear!
4-We are spending the weekend on our boat downtown so we don’t have to drive!
5-We could use a date night!

I just got engaged and in my 41 years have never done anything for New Years eve. Let alone something this extravagantly!

I am recently engaged and would love to take my fiancé out for a good time. We have heard about the Champagne Ball and would love to enjoy ourselves with other great people at such a fun event!

I’m a busy graduate student that also works. That I have little to no free time to enjoy the simple things of life. I have new years off and would love to have the chance to bring in the new year in a big way with my new fiance at the Champagne Ball.

I would love to celebrate the end of a very rough year with my favorite adult beverage (bubbles) at the Champagne Ball! Nothing like getting dressed to the Nines, enjoying a glass of champagne and meeting new people to cheer one up!

It would mean so much to win tickets to this beautiful NYE event. My boyfriend moved all the way from Florida a year ago, and I would love to be able to celebrate an amazing year together and show him how thankful I am that he made that huge sacrifice for me. We have no extra money to do anything extravagant. It would truly mean the world to me to be able to give him such a special and beautiful night!
