Bringing light to a very serious matter… horrible holiday sweaters, The Ugly Sweater Run, presented by Human Movement Management (HMM), invites Portland to celebrate the holidays by participating in the ‘Merriest 5k on the Planet’. Runners, walkers, and children will unite at Oregon Convention Center on Nov. 30th for a little cardio, hot chocolate, Samuel Adams beer and a winter wonderland celebration.
“Ugly sweaters are uniting once again,” said Jeff Suffolk, HMM president. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring our 2014 national series to Portland again this year, bringing together thousands of people to raise enjoy a great holiday tradition and help a great organization in Save The Children.”
The Ugly Sweater Run course is approximately 3.1-miles long at Oregon Convention Center. Once participants are on the course they will find holiday-themed stations at every mile and replenish their electrolytes at a good old-fashioned hot chocolate aid station. After crossing the finish line, participants will enter the post-run festival area where participants aged 21+ will receive one Samuel Adams Boston or Winter Lagers or Angry Orchard Apple Cider included in registration. In addition, all participants receive a custom vintage knit hat and unlimited hot chocolate. Participants are encouraged to enter post-race contests for some great holiday prizes.
The Ugly Sweater Run is happy and proud to partner with such a great organization in Save the Children. All participants are given the opportunity to donate $5 or more during registration. The funds raised will benefit Save the Children’s Make the World Better with a Sweater holiday campaign to give children living in poverty in America and around the world a brighter future.
“The holidays are a time to spend with our families, be grateful for what we have and give back to those less fortunate. But they are also a time to have fun, which is why we invite you and your family to make the world better by donning a festive sweater and joining an Ugly Sweater Run near you to help raise funds for Save the Children,” said Carolyn Miles, president and CEO for Save the Children. “It’s the perfect way to have some quality fun close to home, while giving back to children in need all around the world. Plus, working up a sweat will help burn up those sugar-cookie calories. A healthy bonus!”
“This holiday 5k has everything your five-year-old self would want with a few perks of adulthood,” said Suffolk. “Our goal for this race is to give people a well deserved break from the holiday madness and to brighten their holiday spirits.” The Ugly Sweater Run recognizes Save the Children as its partner charity this year and Samuel Adams and Sports Authority as sponsors for the festivities. Tickets start at $30 for groups of 4 or more and under 21 participants, and $35 for individual runners.
