Wil Blades, a native Chicagoan, has become the San Francisco Bay Area’s first call organist and is rapidly gaining momentum throughout the world. He has been named in the Downbeat critics poll under “Rising Star” for organ every year since 2006. Wil has kept the traditional sounds of Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, and “Groove” Holmes alive, while creating a more personal, modern sound.

Wil has performed and recorded with John Lee Hooker, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Melvin Sparks, Idris Muhammad, Joe Louis Walker, Don Braden, Donald Harrison, Nicholas Payton, Karl Denson, Will Bernard, Scott Amendola, Charlie Hunter, Stanton Moore, Billy Martin, Anders Osborne, Jason Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Betty Joplin, Eddie Marshall, Herbie Lewis, and many others. His band this evening features McTuff guitarist, Andy Coe.

Crack Sabbath is a Seattle hard-core jazz super group led by renowned sax-master, Skerik. This is not straight ahead jazz, mind you, but improvisational brilliance that is informed by rock, funk, punk and more! Whoa boy, this is gonna something to see (and hear)!

One of my favorite bands in the PACNW, always delivering a badass show for anyone who’s got hearing. It’s my 8th anniversary of living in portland on saturday and I was in the goodfoot that very same night 8 years ago. Can’t wait – Cheers!

Yes! I love these guys! Let’s do it! I might go anyway, even if I don’t win. But if I do win, I’ll bring extra people!

Of Skerik’s MANY, MANY ensembles Crack Sabbath is MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE. They have only played Portland a handful of time in their entire career (thinking this is only the 4th or 5th time EVER) & I’m out of work & piss-poor. I’ve never won a PDXpipeline contest…maybe this’ll be my time? I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to WIN tickets!!
