Portland’s original cornfield maze celebrates its 16th season at The Pumpkin Patch on beautiful Sauvie Island in Portland, Oregon. Sixteen years ago, Craig Easterly, founder of the original corn maze, brought his weird idea to Sauvie Island’s famous Pumpkin Patch and it soon became a fall tradition.

The MAiZE attracts 30,000 eager explorers annually to the giant labyrinth of field corn, located just fifteen minutes from downtown Portland. Portland’s premier agri-tainment attraction, The Maize and The Pumpkin Patch, have combined the local food movement with down home fun on the farm.

The iconic Big Red Animal Barn, 100 year old oak tree, and of course, a tractor pulling in a load of pumpkins are all represented in this classic farm themed MAiZE design. The MAiZE encourages visitors to come out and lose themselves in the two miles of twists and turns in the five acre cornfield.

Sometimes when you’re lost in life you need to be amaized. It’s corny, I know.

I’d like to go to the MAize because corn maizes have always been apart of my childhood. I loved getting lost and exploring. I grew up on the east coast and went to the Amazing maize maze in Lancaster, PA – I would love to see how this maze measures up compared to it!

My friend will be here from Massachusetts and thinks we don’t know how to get down for Halloween out on the west coast. This will prove him wrong!

  9. Jen Emerson September 16, 2014 at 4:36 pm #

Looking for something ‘amaizing’ to do for my wife’s birthday – and this is it! She is an avid maze fan, even creates her own, and has been dying to do a “live” maze. Please pick us!

  10. Christine September 16, 2014 at 4:39 pm #

  15. Amber September 17, 2014 at 9:26 am #

I grew up going to haunted corn mazes. My boyfriend, sadly, did not. I would love to take him through this and listen to him scream! Guys like it when you’re mean to them, right? Call them names, punch them on the shoulder, drag them through a field of corn that will give them nightmares and the need for therapy. . .

  16. Kristie September 17, 2014 at 9:39 am #

I love pumpkins, if I went I would make the scariest jack o lantern and delicious soup with my bounty.

  17. Elyse September 17, 2014 at 10:05 am #

I have never been in a maze and I love Halloween. It would be so cool, all the fun sites to see and enjoy, Portland Halloween The MAiZE & Haunted Corn Maze @ The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island | 2 Miles of Twists & Turns what a wonderful time this would be. Hopefully, you’ll pick my name for this awesome event and opportunity. I’d love the opportunity to win the tickets. Thank you.

  21. Desiree September 17, 2014 at 2:55 pm #

It would be a great experience for my family! Times are tight right now but it would be amazing to still get to do some fun things this fall! I have always loved the big pumpkin patch/corn maze fun and I want my son to know that joy too! Thank you!

  22. Nikki D September 17, 2014 at 4:56 pm #

I’d really like to attend to redeem myself from last year. I refused to go in the haunted maze with a couple I’m friends with, only to go into the haunted maze the week after. If I get these tickets I owe it to the couple to bring them here at no cost to them (or me)! Also because I’d love for the couple to stop bringing it up as if I dropped their child on their head.. Which I haven’t done, yet.

    Thank you!!
    Nikki D

  23. Denise skala September 17, 2014 at 6:18 pm #

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Halloween! I’m terrified of corn mazes but heard this one was amazing. be my first? Please pick me!

  24. Nancy Anderson September 17, 2014 at 6:34 pm #

remember those autumn dates you took your high school sweetie on, and got her scared just so you had an excuse to hold her? Well, I have fond memories of those teen years. My hubby and I would love to go, even though we left adolescence over 30 years ago. (And yes, I’ll let him hold me, and yes, I’ll squeal like a 16 year-old!)

  25. Linda McNamara September 17, 2014 at 6:36 pm #

First year my kiddo feels brave enough to go get scared, first time im nervous to go= time to face the fear! I love Halloween!!

  26. Jimmy Johnson September 17, 2014 at 8:13 pm #

Mazes in Wyoming are pretty awesome, but it looks like I need to step it up to the PDX level!!

  27. Derek M. Koch September 17, 2014 at 8:47 pm #

My wife and I haven’t been able to go to any of the local corn mazes in a few years due to work, scheduling, and health, but this year is our year!

  28. jessica mai September 17, 2014 at 10:18 pm #

My first and last corn maize experience was 2 years ago. I went with a fairly large group of friends and was with a guy I had started dating so I thought it would be cool to hold on to him and scream when ever I got scared. I was pretty excited scared and nervous about going to the haunted corn maize. I heard that the employees dress up and chase people around. I was about half way through the maize when I saw a guy who was dressed up jump out of the corn and run up to couple and and scare them. I was laughing so hard because they didn’t see it coming. Before I knew it that same guy ran behind me and snarled in my ear and it was so dark I didn’t see him coming. I freaked out so hard that I threw my hands in the air and smacked my date so hard in the face that his glasses fell off into the muddy ground. I could hear it in his voice that I hit him pretty hard. My friends where all behind me and ran up to us to see what the commotion was all about it was pretty funny. The crew helped him search for his glasses and we found them broken and covered in Mud. I felt so bad because now my date was completely blind with out his glasses. Luckily he was a good sport n wasn’t upset that I knocked his glasses off his face. We finished the maize and made it out alive.

Since moving to Portland over three years ago, my husband and I have been on a quest to find the best pumpkin patch and corn maize. We haven’t found it yet. The Pumpkin Patch is supposed to be one of the best, we just haven’t made it there yet. And, here’s a great opportunity for us to have some fall fun and enjoy the beauty of Sauvie’s Island.

  30. Bonnie Davidoff September 18, 2014 at 7:12 am #

Last time I went into a maize I got lost- Not sure if I found my way out yet!

I am originally from Iowa, and Sauvie Island has always been my escape to be surround with that Midwest feeling. Every Halloween we would run a different corn maize, but I haven’t done it since leaving Iowa in 2006! #NoPlaceLikeHome (Except, maybe, the Sauvie Island Corn Maize!)

My husband CANNOT WAIT to check out this maze and see what Halloween-stuff Portland and area have to offer! That and we haven’t been on a date since we had our little one. This would be PERFECT!

C) Though a content loner, I’ve recently made friends with someone who can’t yet go to bars, and I struggle to find stuff that’s all-ages fun (drinking or not, you don’t realize all your favorite stomping grounds and music venues are 21+!).

Just moved here last month via RV from Florida. We didn’t plan on moving here, but when we got here it felt like… home! Out of 26 cities it was our favorite!

I’ve never experienced a “real Fall” or an authentic corn maze. (In Florida they make mazes with construction tape, lol)

  136. Stacy September 20, 2014 at 7:01 pm #

I want to go!!!!! Yay for Halloween!

  137. Virginia September 20, 2014 at 7:57 pm #

  176. Heather Bell September 25, 2014 at 3:00 pm #

My partner and I love corn mazes! We do them every year for our anniversary!

  177. Erik September 25, 2014 at 3:00 pm #

  178. Aimee September 25, 2014 at 3:01 pm #

I worked here one year and it was super-fantastic. Would love to be on the other side of it!

  180. Ally Cooper September 25, 2014 at 3:05 pm #

This is the number one thing I would want to win! My boyfriend and I started dating 3 years ago this October and our first date was a pumpkin patch. We go back each year to celebrate!

  186. Megan Burger September 25, 2014 at 3:25 pm #

Is getting lost in a corn maze a good or a bad thing for a relationship?

  187. Devin September 25, 2014 at 3:25 pm #

Can you believe that I’m dating a bearded, bicycle riding, flannel wearing Portland native that has NEVER been to Sauvie?! How is that even possible??! Please help me remedy this sad situation…you just can’t live in Portland and NOT go to The Patch.

  188. James Paul September 25, 2014 at 3:29 pm #

  189. Brian September 25, 2014 at 3:30 pm #

  192. Kami Kern September 25, 2014 at 3:41 pm #

It’s been a family tradition to go every year, but this year, the funds won’t work. This would be awesome to keep it alive during this rough “patch”.

  193. Rochelle September 25, 2014 at 3:51 pm #

    Never been!

  194. Rob Nathan September 25, 2014 at 3:51 pm #

  195. Kellie September 25, 2014 at 3:52 pm #

I’ve been to a corn maze once. I was a child, and I loved the feeling of being “stuck” and having to find my own way out. I’d love to revisit this as an adult.

  196. Garry Taylor September 25, 2014 at 4:07 pm #

Being a Celtic Guy from Wales in the UK and now living in Portland Oregon I would love to experience the best Halloween has to offer,, I have heard so much about these corn mazes lets start at the top eh?? :]

  200. Thomas McFarland September 25, 2014 at 4:46 pm #

My girlfriend and I just moved here from San Francisco last week – we took a chance, and sold everything off and came with our cat in the car. It is so beautiful here and we both LOVE haunted attractions. We don’t have any money for anything other than food and gas at this point, so this would be a real treat for us!

    i loooove mazes so much

  202. Brianna September 25, 2014 at 4:48 pm #

We love hitting this up when we can. This year, we have a friend who hasn’t been able to go for the past 6 years. We’d love an excuse to get him out this year!

  203. Bonnie Nicholas September 25, 2014 at 6:15 pm #

Is it cheating to study the maize from above before trying to negotiate it on foot?

  204. jim September 25, 2014 at 6:22 pm #

  215. seth francis September 25, 2014 at 11:25 pm #

I have never been to a corn maze – EVER in my life! It is time to change that, to change my world! I did not think I could be cornier, until I learned of the maze! I did not think I could enjoy getting lost, and scared, and hungry, until I heard of the maze.

Let’s do this thing, lets walk around in circles with ridiculous smiles on our faces, laughing and screaming, because our lives are better with corn mazes!

You can do that for me, I beg of you, have you no mercy?!

  216. Dave G. September 25, 2014 at 11:52 pm #

    This would be “killer”!

  217. Jessica September 26, 2014 at 1:25 am #

    Fingers crossed–have never been!!

  218. Yulya September 26, 2014 at 1:51 am #

My girlfriend and I are both fairly new transplants from New York City. We are in love with Autumn, and falling deeper in love with Portland (and Oregon) all the time! Nature drenched sights and events like getting lost in a corn maize and wandering in a pumpkin patch (something us city girls have never done before!) is exactly what us new Portland romantics are dreaming of! I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will be able to see the Great Pumpkin ;)

  219. Diana P September 26, 2014 at 4:35 am #

Sauvie Island, Oh the memories, when a small child going with my grandma to pick strawberries and green beans for her to can, when a teenager to swim, as an adult going to get fresh produce to cook and can great meals for my family. 227. Nick Pizzuto September 26, 2014 at 12:17 pm #

Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maize of Sauvie Island, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.

  228. jenifer September 26, 2014 at 12:43 pm #

Neither myself nor my kids have ever been to a corn maze and we hear this one is The BEST!

I would love to attend this event! Growing up in upstate NY, I looked forward to fall all year. It was my absolute favorite season as a kid. Having lived in Florida for the past nine years, I’ve missed the feeling of Fall and all the fun it brings. Now that I’ve recently moved to the west coast, I can’t wait to experience it again and hope to make the most of every activity.

    Kiddos would love this

  257. Shakira October 2, 2014 at 4:42 pm #

I’ve been in the US four years now, and never been to a corn maze in my life – they just don’t have them in the southern hemisphere, since the change of seasons isn’t nearly as apparent among eucalypts and native Australian greenery. (And of course the seasons are different so autumn is in April anyway – celebrating Halloween with pumpkins in spring is rather strange!)

I’ve been wanting to experience one ever since I read about them as a kid, and starting with the original Portland corn maze seems only fitting.

My fiance are new residents to Oregon and we visited Kruger’s farm, and picked some flowers, drank very delicious, home-made Apple cider, and purchased some small pumpkins to decorate for Hallows Eve. We are currently on a budget and have a goal to move out of my brother’s place before Christmas, to celebrate our own Christmas, in our own home (apartment). We both would Love to experience more of what Oregon has to offer, and it would be Awesome to go through the Corn maze, to start our journey, as we are, also, getting married net year, in April. :-)
